Well edge is definetly a good technology but it looks like it will be forgotten just like hscsd.....
I can't talk about other countries because i admit that i didn't do much of research but i think that edge is only a secondary tech to 3g,
like for instance the main operator of slovenia -mobitel- which has about 80% has a running 3g network now , while the second operator (simobil-vodafone) which has only 10% decided that they can't afford 3g networks and they have build up an edge network that still isn't ready,
so in my country you can buy a 3g phone like the moto a835 and you can enjoy the benefits of 3g while you can also buy a 3200 but it isn't really any good,
so i think that at this point you can't say this is better or that (i personally think 3g is better), because it depends where you live, so i guess we would have to wait 3 months......
and about the pcmcia edge card, i think it's nice but just like nokias useless (for me

)
I don't think that anybody has claimed EDGE to be better than 3G (WCDMA). EDGE isn't meant to be a substitutive technology to 3G, but complementary. It's all about the money as they use say. 3G networks are really expensive to build, since it basicly requires re-building the whole infrastructure and also a new software. EDGE is pretty cheap for the operators to invest, since it's basicly a software update to the existing GSM network.
So to summarize. 3G is definitely coming to the city areas, but it's coverage isn't gonna reach the countryside for many many many years, if ever. So, EDGE provides high data transfer rates in the areas where's no 3G coverage.

This one's good.
With all these features packed by Nokia in this cellphone, I bet,
even the Boy Scouts would travel with this one.
Now, all it needs now is a good hunting knife at it's side.

Talking about "Wi-Fi is way to go", I have different opinion. Microsoft officially annonced that they will not many further devices (OS wise) that supports Wi-FI.
The new technology that replaces Wi-Fi is Wi-Max (802.16x). It can give you 34Mb/s (E3) over the distance of 30miles (~48Km)... wow..
NOW, does anyone know if these cell phone manufactureres are making any one of them with Wi-Max interface?
I was also thinking that if Wi-Max comes into picture, we won't be needing thse GSM/CDMA/PCS, etc because Cisco will come up with an IP cell phone

, they way they have introduce IP phones and they are hitting all the enterprises networks. If this comes true, then GPRS, EGPRS, WAP, crap... whatever, go to drain... coz IP cell phones will kill it.
Wi-Max is the future!!

well I only took a quick look at the previous posts of this thread and no one has mentioned the fact that the 5140 with the purchase of an extra accessory (basically a "special" facial) has the ability of functioning as a GPS navigation system. This accessory on makes the phone about 11gr heavier, but think of how useful it is for some people. Personally I love SE but I would consider buying this phone only for its GPS ability (very useful in a car, or when traveling abroad).

I'm pretty sure they'll do something with Wi-Max...in 2010!
