there are 3 problems with 3G
1 high price for use of high speed data
2 expencive phones, won't attract mass market
3 people are not ready yet for high level technology, most still have old phones and are affraid or sorry to say stupid to update there phone and see what wonders technology can offer

I have to agree with bart - a friend of mine has just upgraded from the ubiquitous Nokia 3410 - when confronted with the likes of Bluetooth, MMS and GPRS - he couldn't get his head around them.
It's got to be said that Joe Bloggs on the street is quite happy making the odd call and sending the odd SMS - 3G is not going to be anything special for some years yet - end of discussion methinks

3 [the provider] has a good marketing and isn't that expensive and also the services are high quality [a friend of me has a 3mobile] - even A1 can't really match with them, because A1 has just the U10 as UMTS phone and 3 has got about 5 phones
but the biggest problem at the moment are phones - just look at them, they are to heavy and thick
nokia > has got no 3G model with a videocam and the hardware is really bad
se > Z1010 is a great phone ! design and hardware wise, but its 4 cm thick ... who will buy a 4 cm thick phone if there are clam shell phones like E600 or even z600 ... i personnaly think that se has the best chance to "win" this 1st generation of 3g phones
siemens > has brought up to phones, the newer one is just a poor upgrade of the old one
samsung > haven't really looked at it
motorola > one of the 3 supporters, thick and heavy phones, the hardware is fine, they have made some mistakes concerning bluetooth and IRDA, cause one of their phones had those 2 wirless connections but not "opened" - you had to wait for the new firmware ...
Nec > first 3 supporters, large phones - but they had a videocam > even more advanced than the first nokia [and even the second] 3G phone
lets hope for the p1000 and the other 2nd gernation of 3g products

ericsson has done good development in the 3g section, i hope sony is using this experience and developments

There will be lots of phones waiting in the Van to Hannover to be shown for this and next year.
What Motorola has shown the last couple of days is just a glimp what othere manufactures are preparing! (not that the moto's are bad but in quantity!)
As far as I know most upcoming devices will have WCDMA in under the screen!

The phones are big and the 3g service is very expensive.
Give it a few years and it might be worth it to get a 3g phone.
