Hi All,
My first POST
I have been around this forum for a couple of days and I must say its cheerful even when ppl claim they have upgraded P800's to P900's.
Now I upgraded the latest FE on ,my P900, without trouble using a 56 k modem. Restore and resync were fine.
also noticed faster thumbnails, some of them are now blury but these were not taken by my p900 camera. phone is little faster. Bluetooth well I am still testing it but till now I havent had a problems.
Cheers

Well it seems we are lucky that we have 256k but unfortunately through the internal network its been reduced to 100k. Anyway I would prefer as well SE to be releasing some notes. On the other hand maybe SE doesnt want to share with other manufacturers what they are improving in their models.

Upgraded earlier today. No obvious changes other than new firmware version numbers. But me too can report a whole day without HBH-200 failure, and this piece of junk was very troublesome with R3A06.

Hi,
I updated the firmware too after reading the postings here and all went well. It took about 30 minutes as normal although I have noticed the following differences since:
1. Thumbnail pictures are blurred, some more than others
2. Demo application has returned. After the last upgrade I noticed it was available in the uninstall menu so I uninstalled it. Now it has re-appeared and not available to uninstall.
3. Phone does seem faster swapping between applications
4. No memory leeks so far (fingers crossed).
Did notice one other thing the other day, I upgrade PC Suite and have had a few quirks when syncronising. For some reason last night one of my contacts was deleted from the phone even though it was present on the PC and unchanged. Plus I seem to get the odd contact moved from personal to unfiled which automatically removes the picture.
Lastly a question, to get the best quality thumbnails, contact photos can some suggest the best settings? At the moment I have them down to 4Kb each by reducing the JPEG save quality and having them defined as 208x208

There's a DEMO application added which can be seen in UNFILED folder but does not have Uninstall option. What I did is just delete the entire folder using PC Filemanager.
I had the same thing. I was freaked out for a second when I thought that SE could be hiding info on our phones for one reason or another, then I just deleted the folder lol.

I guess I didn't see this thread before posting a duplicate.. Anywho, been away for a while. Here's a snapshot of it:

BT issue resolved for some. HBH-200 call list still not available. I also think SE has worked into tweaking their updater so that 'unauthorized' updates couldn't be performed by those that have manipulated their software in the past.

Managed to get my P900 unbranded and now have the latest firmware - are you saying that SE will be able to detect that I had an Orange customisation and that I will not be able to update the FW in the future?
Does seem unfair that Orange and O2 users, as far as I know, cannot benefit from the improved BT software at the moment.

Jah,
I think you managed to squeek away from getting your phone blocked from online updates. I was mostly refferring to those that have managed to 'hack' the software to update their phones. I think it's going to be a bit more difficult this time around. You wiped the phone clear of any branded firmware thus you have revived your phone to a virgin state which has changed your CDA to an 'approved' one by the SE update service.
Moreover, as far as fareness I think any member that buys their phone through a contract must abide to the contract rules and restrictions. The easiest way to get around these rules and restrictions is to simply buy a sim-free phone. I guess any contract holder's beef should be with the contract carrier and not the manufacturer. The contract carrier is the one that is barring the manufacturer from allowing these online updates by not authorizing it. It's the price one pays when choosing to buy on contract. Remember that firmware upgrades are not a 'necessity' or even technically covered as such under the manufacturer warranty. It's not considered a necessity until a qualified technician inspects your phone and deems that a firmware upgrade would resolve the issue. Which is why some have to pay when they go to authorized dealers and not the manufacturer. If these authorized delears flash your phone for free then they are technically doing you a favor as they are not obligated to do this.

Overall I see your point. However, I would argue that as BT does not work I would say the product is not fit for purpose and therefor needs to be rectified. Also on enquiring with CPW on the subject of a complete reflash I was not told that there would be a charge in addition to not being told that it would be in breach of my Orange contract. The situation is that a SIM free Orange handset was not available when I purchased my P900. Also regarding costs I agree that the impact of achieving an initial lower capital cost does mean that one is tied to a network handset but my monthly expenditure on calls has already far exceeded the wholesale cost of a P900. Orange and other networks, I hope, should add value to handset ownership not the opposite as is the case at the moment.
