@judge: but shouldn't a good lawyer advise their client against taking frivolous action? (admittedly in the US this doesn't seem to apply).
@jason: while all that may be true there are usually provisions for "common practise", so since every manufacturer of optical hardware uses a stylised representation of image quality in advertisements so can SE. it's nothing to do with the individual company, but what the law allows them to get away with. i have yet to see an ad that doesn't over-estimate the abilities or applications of a particular product or service. it's perfectly feasible for a wedding photographer to use a phone-cam, but he'd go out of business very quickly (and more-fool any idiot that does hire him).
EDIT: now i think on it, there's nothing to suggest that the couple didn't request the shot since they may want to either use it as wallpaper on their own handset, or send it to someone who couldn't make it on the day.
