This is very true. Also,consider how densely you could pack the individual cells on a photo sensitive chip; even if the cells were subatomic particles, you still couldnt cram enough together to get such high resolutions as we are talking about here.
Further to this, we seem to be forgetting that light travels in the form of individual energy packets called photons. If my p900 had, for example, a 10gigapixel camera, i wouldnt be able to zoom in enough to be able to make out details a great distance away, since in the split second of time it takes to capture a photo, not enough photons from that particular object will have fallen on the individual cells on my camera chip, so whatever im trying to zoom in on will appear faint, blurred and smudgy.
