Excerpts from the New York Times:

Just one of the five phones introduced Monday was aimed at the midlevel market where Nokia has been having the most serious problems, analysts said, and none of the products were distinctive enough to make the company immediately stand out from the competition.

"My overall impression is these are useful, pragmatic additions, but nothing earth-shattering,'' said Peter Firstbrook, program director with the META Group, a technology research consultant firm. The styles are a little dull, Mr. Firstbrook said, and the lower-end designs look "vaguely Soviet."

The market was underwhelmed by Nokia's new products and the company's predictions about growth, and Nokia's stock fell nearly 2 percent in European trading. In New York, its American depository receipts - each representing one share of Nokia - closed down 16 cents, or 1.12 percent, at $14.08.

The new products are "a constructive step," said Timothy Luke, an analyst with Lehman Brothers. "But is it enough to tip the balance and stabilize Nokia's outlook?" he asked. "It's too early to say." Lehman said in a note to investors on Monday that "some uncertainty" remained around Nokia's estimates in the second and third quarter.

The challenge for Nokia will be the new products that Samsung and Motorola bring out this year. "The question is, Can Nokia compete with what the Asians bring out?" said Per Lindberg, an analyst with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in London.

Looks like all Nokia mid to high end phones are Symbian Series 60. This is a very smart move indeed as market for smartphone is going to explode. Nokia will be there to cream off most of this.

SE is the only one who is not adopting Series 60 and I think it will lose out BIG time.

@caff

ROFL! Although it looks more like the cod-piece for a storm trooper. Out of all the releases the 6260 looks the most serious, but vs. the p900 series? Gimme a break - write word docs using that? They obviously want you to be using their wireless keyboard but who wants to carry it around?

Useful for showing off at the airport lounge - that's about it.

Yup cant compare the 6260 with the P900. And I don't think the price will be as high as the P900. It's just a series 60 phone in a different form (which I kinda like).
