@ finbom - i really think you're blowing this out of proportion. the news that malicious software could do bad things to your phone is no news at all, it's true of any open computing device. the key to this is how this naughty software gets to run on that device in the first place, and so far Symbian is proving as resillient to that as it possibly can be, by firstly giving the option not to accept the file at all, and then warning you (as if you weren't already aware) that the file is an unknown program and an untrustworthy one at that.

let's be clear, there's no backdoor being revealed here, and no vulnerability. nothing's been spoofed, or misrepresented by or to the system. nobody's going to click on this thinking its a link, or a document, or a picture etc - it's quite clear this is a program wanting to be installed. so if this "virus" highlights anything, it's the security of the os, and the uselessness of writing a virus for it.

I find it hard to belivie that *anyone* can get so stupied to press OK 3 times Then again, im not surpriced - i've seen what morons who get virus, trojans, do with their mail. They click on *anything* that arrives to the mailbox

For the P900:

1. You MUST accept the new send by accepting the send (from another bluetooth device - this can be set to never autoaccept files, which is a good idea).
2. You MUST run the file accepted.
3. I'm not 100% sure, but i think the trojan must be installed. And for that procedure, the trojan itself must be "signed" as a installsoftware.
I'd like to see a trojan-maker buy signed signatures

With a friend, we are working on a complete free solution for P800/900, which is a small app, only accepting "call out" from predefined numbers. This will prevent the phone from making any "unwanted" calls.

How long has P800 been out, and no viruses have infected them as far as I know!
Or 60 series for that matter, as people are saying it is hype even my dad phoned me to warn me
I do not have bluetooth on unless I'm transferring files.

I think wh@ ppl are saying is right! If you get a virus on ya phone the its your owen silly fault for lettin it run in the first place.

Simple. You let it run, you pay the conciquence!

I had to make a virus in pascal when i was @ collage and the same rule applyed!

Be smart and dont let one complie in your phone!
