For SE to compete with nokia now they really need to improve the mid range phones, P900 is more advanced than the nokia 6600 but the series 60 symbiam is a lot more supported at the moment.
I have both P900 and 6600 and for software i would have to say that the 6600 wins hands down. P900 has some good software but not a lot about and its not as accessable "on the go" i.e. using stylus to play games etc.
Software for 6600 and all other series 60 phones is ALL OVER the place and its very easy to fill a S60 phone full of nice apps.
Minus the touch screen function on the P900 the 6600 is not that far behind in features when u install a few apps that are knocking about for free on the web, bearing in mind a 6600 sim free can be had for 200 quid now, 1/2 the price of a P900.
I think nokia have the edge at the moment in the market

Someone mentioned SE needing to broaden their range, they need a couple more handsets, yes, but do you want them to become a blanket company like Nokia? I certainly dont want

to have 50 phones, in fact i think they only need one or two more, as people say, in the mid-price, mid-features range. I cant remember if it was here or in another thread, but someone mentioned the K500 as a missed opportunity, i would have to agree with that. But at the same time you can get the fabulous k700 for NOTHING on some contracts, so do they really need it? Ok i've just confused myself

And whats up with the stupid keypad designs that nokia have been releasing on their phones? Must be a nightmare to write messages with, unlike SE which have a standard layout thats so easy to use. Big screens we got too!

I think if you asked

waht
they want you;ll find they want to sell sell sell.
their products to the masses... an

phone for everybody. that sort of thing.

on't we have a nice elitist view of ourselves! Not only is that definitely not good enough to keep

in business.... i think you will find that is blatantly untrue. Everybody can own an

phone is in the end it's just a phone.
It's all good and well to feel superior to users of other brands in your own little world but keeping

to a small elite would kill the company...... if you'd ever manage it.
What

needs is a broader range for a larger group of customers.... and it will come too
Elitists! Bah!

i know i said it.

an all arround phone like M65 but much better
a business phone without cam
a candybar 3G phone
a candybar symbian OS none touchscreen
a clamshell symbian OS (touchscreen)

i did not say the P900 is not more advanced. at 3 times the price of 6600 it better be. but does the P900 have 3 times more function? i dont think so. in fact you cannot count too many things the P900 can do that the 6600 cannot.

It isn't necessarily a case of 'having more functions', it is simply a better product; it is a simple concept, after all an A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia actually has less functionality than a Casio calculator watch, but it is quite obviously the superior product.

u seems to be using the same rhetoric that every SE fan use ...
so how is T610 to T630 or P800 to P900 to P910 any different?

Your statement demonstrates your obvious bias against SE, if that wasn't already apparent. I actually used to be a Nokia fan, in fact I have owned several of them in my time and I found several of them to be excellent, however, I switched to Sony and then SE because Nokia had started down a path of mass produced mediocrity.
I have never said I thought it was a good idea for SE to have released the T610 and the T630 since they are both very similar, they would have been far better off releasing just the T630 in my opinion. If you care to check you will also notice that I have posted on how I think the P910 is a waste of money if one already has the P900, as several other members also commented. Furthermore several members have also commente don how the P900 is what the P800 should have been and that the two seperate products should not have been released.
I am not a blind follower of SE, they have their weaknesses and faults just like any other company, but, in my view, they consistently produce high quality products, which I think are the best in their field.

Nokia has a range of affordable (and practical) smartphones for the masses. SE does not. And Nokia is selling 8-10 times more smartphone. And that's the fact.

Would you like me to give Nokia a medal? Sorry to sound so flippant, but I fail to see your point here. By definition a smartphone is a tool required by a relatively small percentage of the population, perhaps that is why SE haven't felt the need to produce a range of 'affordable' smartphones.
Nokia sells more smartphones because they have more on sale coupled with the fact that they have a far greater brand recognition than SE. SE seem to be concentrating on a few devices that offer a high standard to customers rather than trying to produce a range of smartphones that attempt to be all things to all men.

well, this is one area (i.e. smartphone) which Nokia has an edge over SE.
u think smartphone is only for an "elite" few and to you a smartphone is ONLY for the business high end user (P900). the statistics says (if u believe) that smartphone will make up one quarter of phone sales by 2006/07.
Well, i think most non-SE fans would be hoping like mad that SE will continue to think like u do.

@mib1800
You seem to suggest that those who do not buy SE phones want them to fail, what an odd viewpoint! Ignoring that I shall address your point.
Analysts may very well predict that smartphones will have a bigger market share in years to come, but that is irrelevant to this discussion since we are focusing upon current smartphone strategy. SE currently targets the high-end/business user with their smartphones, this may very well change over time. Nokia produces a great number of models, which target the full range of customers, but increasingly many customers are viewing their products as mediocre. Many Nokia customers are turning to other brands, not just SE, but Samsung, Motorola, etc. This situation is especially true, in my opinion, in areas with advanced mobile technology and services as opposed to those areas lacking such advanced features, where Nokia, with relatively cheap and simple mobiles available, can do well. Why aren't Nokia big in Japan, for example?

i think many people in this forum would like to see Nokia fail so that SE can succeed. (just my opinion)
coming back to this topic. if u refer to "edge" as in technical sense then SE would would have an edge because of the Sony. but whether this technical edge can be translated into success is another matter. just look at Betamax or MSDuoPro. these products are technically advanced but in commercial sense they are just total flop.
i think we r debating GSM phone here. if u want to bring in CDMA then it is a completely differnt scenario.
for gsm handset, imo, SE does not hv an edge. in fact it lagging behind especially in smartphone. i think Nokia 6600/7610/6260/6630 is a big step forward for GSM handset. Nokia has manage to put Symbian OS onto a workable, practical, affordable, stable and phone-like handset.
sad to say, SE is losing out in this aspect. if only SE has put Symbian into S700 which everyone was expecting when it was first announced.
