The sooner orange uk lose the branded phones the better...it should operate like it does elsewhere...it puts them at a disadvantage...just as they proved with the first M's they released un badged...breaking their own rules but showing it adds unnecessary manufacturing time to do! Got mine done early June on Orange, just after upgrae became avaialable, so had to leave it there for 24hrs - CPW service centre, off Baker Street.
They had no probs with me being on Orange, and yes it's still locked to Orange

Got my T68m on Orange from CPW last Friday (R3F h/ware, R2A013 s/ware). Dropped into CPW in Milton Keynes today after reading all the posts here, and they confirmed that they cannot do the upgrade.
I've been wondering tho, do Orange actually have any right to stop us from upgrading? After all, I've bought (actually got it free with subscription, but that's not the point) a SonyEricsson phone, not an Orange phone. If SE will upgrade for free for everyone else, how come Orange can stop them?

I spoke to orange again about this last week and i said what the f**k i do to my phone is up to me if i want to smash it up if i want to put different software on it i bloody well can after all ITS MY PHONE and as long as it remains locked to orange what is the big deal, and they are now charging £199 for the t68i and the t68 can be bought for as little as £29.99 on contract so in real terms the f**kers are charging up to £180 for the mms software,at this point the operater i spoke to agreed but he then hung up on me when i told him that i was tapping the conversation

Not sure which of the 4000 threads on Orange and upgrade to post this to. Those waiting for an official ornage upgrade will be seriously dissapointed, I received this today in regard to the T68m->t68i upgrade (I removed the names):

Incidently anyone know if a service center can tell that a phone is locked to a specific network during the upgrade process? If I send my phone to Celestica and tell them I am on Cellnet how would they know I was lying given that I would retain the SIM and the phone has no Orange makings on it?
-----------------------------------------

Thank you for your mail.

I can confirm that Orange phones are supplied with Orange software
rather than the software supplied by the manufacturer. I can confirm
that we are not able to upgrade that software.

I hope this information assists you.

Kind Regards

I was told it had nothing to do with orange and it was up to the individual service centres if they had the software orange didn't even have a clue when i rang them.Mine took 40 mins at convergence telecom in pocklington.Didn't cost a bean, still under warrenty or orange can kiss my hairy ass.The problem with orange is the left hand doesn't have a clue what the right is doing?Incidently anyone read in the paper bout big companys putting there customer services helplines and stuff in places like india and pakistan for cheap workers and just teaching them to speak really good english?
