Here's my humble view on this matter...
On T610 - the clock in screensaver mode was pretty useless, very hard to see it - you had to turn on the light.
T630 - much better. (cause of the screen)
Then came K700 - the clock looks great on it, easy to read. And (even better!!), it shows an envelope when you have unread messages, and this arrow when unanswered calls etc - that I like !! But, eventually, I decided to go into powersave. I figured, why would I want my phones display to be on, when its in my pocket (and not viewable) all the time, anyways?
I dont have a wrist watch anymore, haven't had it since.. uhm.. I think Nokia 8210 came out. Have always used my phone. But nowadays, you can actually get the time just by looking over your shoulder. In the train, the bus, in malls, bus stops etc. There's a clock everywhere. And if not, it takes only few secs to pull out that wonderful S700 and look at the time - and also, check for unread messages. (in case a message came in and you didnt hear it or feel it (vibrator)).
So it wasnt a big deal when I found out that S700 had no clock in screensaver...
BUT - what is a big deal, and which bothers me alot ... Why, oh why, have they put in a LED only to tell me "dude, you're low on power" and "weee im charging!!" , when that LED could have MANY more cool options, like:
* Blink when you have unread messages
* Blink when you have unanswered calls
* Blink like the old ///'s did (to indicate power on)
Of course, all the above 3 features SHOULD be made optional (can't be that hard... even Samsung has it on their SGH-X450), so that the whiners who cant sleep at night because of a blinking LED, can turn it off - and the rest of us, can turn it on.
I pray for this feature every night... Pleeeeaase
... release a new firmware that has it! (but I really doubt it will happen
)

I just wanted to add my point above ... all those who say "have a wrist watch" are obviously bullshiting. Probably all of them never laid their hands on a S700, and they are just envious on those who have it.
Having an all-in-one device is exactly the purpose of this wonderfull phone. So no more a flash media player, a radio, a camera and a phone all the time with you, just the s700. Probably you guys say that you also need a camera cuz s700 isn't like a real camera, and an iPOD because the sound quality is not exactly like an iPODs sound quality. And another phone just in case we don't have RF ... lol ... you're more than penibile.
Not having a clock displayed in standby (I mean not even having the option for it - is it THAT hard to do?! I think not!) is absolutely against the purposes of this phone and it is a huge drawback!
How can one see missed calls or messages? ...

the clock function is not that important. if i want to see the time i just press a button and voila. even if the time is displayed on the phone(eg k700 which i owned before the s700) you still had to press a button to illuminate the screen. so don't say that se ignored this function. it's just has to do with the actual screen of the s700, consuming too much energy. someone mentioned that the p910's screen is much larger than s700 and still can display the time. let me tell you this..it's not larger! p910 has a resolution of 208x320 whereas s700 has a res of 240x320. so in technical terms it's a much larger screen and if you compare the two screens, the s700 one is by far superior. so it's only natural that se engineers overlooked the time function in order to save some battery life. and mayby it worked, because i can use the s700 for 2-3 days without charging, whereas with the k700 i had to charge it every 1-2 days

good point. but i still miss this function on S700. not because of the clock itself, but for missed calls, sms to be noticed easily, without any necessity of pressing any buttons to be able to recall it....xxx

Well i feel since the s700 users are paying a good amount of money for its sumptuous features its really stupid that se would leave this out to risk annoying even 10-20% of the customers.
On my k7 i find this extremely useful...not because of the clock but because the screen displays extra info like missed calls,mms,sms etc. I just stroll into my room...a quick glance at the phone screen and i instantly get to know the phone status without even the need to lift the phone off the table. Those who say you always have to press a button anyways i suggest you give a thought to having proper ambient lighting conditions at the places where you dwell

For you, based on the same argument, the k700i screen is larger than the screen of, say, n6630, which has a resolution of 176x208 (as oposed to k700i's 176x220) ...
Also P910i has the same active matrix with 262k of colors, and there is also the touch screen eating up battery life. However the feature is still present.
Please stop arguing that "this is not such a big deal" because it is. Not only the clock is gone, but there is absolutely no way of knowing if you missed a call or you have a new message.
I understand powersaving is important for some, but it is not for me. I still charge my phone (as I did with my previous k700 in the beginning) every day, so I really dislike the fact that this option (of viewing the clock and missed events) is missing

I didn't say that everyone has to accept it. and for god's sake you can't say to se what to do and what not to do! s700 shares a lot with the k700(nearly all from a software point of view), so not implementing the clock feature in the s700 must mean something. a multi-billion company can't affort to make sacrifises such as this, without any gain elsewhere. and to tell you the truth, having nearly 3 months experience with the k700 and 5 months with the s700, i prefer s700 all the way. and i don't think that anyone would prefer K700 instead of S700 if they were given the choice, just based on the clock function. just stop moaning (those who do) for nothing and don't look at all the brilliant features that s700 has. that's just my opinion. it's not the end of the world. just PRESS A BUTOON

I do look at the nice features (let's not call them brilliant, they are neither new, nor extremely impressive, except for the design of the phone itself) and I like them very much, but the lack of user customization that SE offers is a sign of total disrespect for their customers. IT IS the main reason for which SE lost one more place in the top10 mobile producers selling charts.
While they do provide many advanced features, they lack minor features that are EXTREMELY annoying for most users, like not being able to have but around 300-400 contacts (given that we can store only 510
numbers on the phone's HUGE memory), not offering VIDEO playback in full-screen, not offering the option for showing or not the clock (just the option - if you want to go powersave, then go, but don't make me have an empty screen all the time!
), not offering the ability of creating new profiles for the phone, not being able to search after more than 1 letter in the phone's agenda, very bad RF at times, etc. (the latter were fixed, but still!).
This is not acceptable for a phone that costs so much! It's like buying a BMW and having to go each month for an upgrade because your car can't go pass 100 miles per hour, or doesn't display the current speed, or can't go backwards. But it can go from 0 to 100km/h in 4 seconds, and has 50 airbags and so, but it's impossible to drive.
