I'm not sure that this thread is of much use if I'm honest. It has become clear that the SEUS does not use CDAs to determine if the phone is allowed to use the service. It's in fact done by the first 8 digits of the IMEI number. Once the phone has been approved based on these digits, the CDA is what the service uses to download the correct software.

@ jagger2k

It applies to all phones, not just Orange. This is SE's system of disallowing certain handsets.

@ jagger2k

Exactly, it won't cause any problems. In fact, for those that can use the SEUS anyway will benefit from changing the CDA as the SEUS will download the correct firmware. All I'm saying is it won't help those who cannot use it with their branded handset.

SEUS does use the CDA to decide on what can be flashed. I bet if i have a phone that is completey unbranded generic and has always worked with seus, i change the cda to CDA123456/7

It will work? I think not................

I beg to differ, Mr Brooks.

I (with your help) have proven that the SEUS uses the first digits of the IMEI (the TAC, was it called?) to decide whether it is allowed to use the service. The CDA is not used when deciding this. But, once the phone's been approved, yes, I agree that a CDA of CDA123456/7 would cause problems with the actual firmware part.

same outcome. But the imei thing is a bit dodgey and this is what happens when there is a 3 way conversation and one player does not have all the info.

I claim nothing, but this person has a t-mobile phone - and so for the necessity of speed i have discarded the imei checking. As it was my belief t-mobile phones can use seus?????

By the way, what does TAC standfor? or even the FAC?

(hehehehe)

@ gbrooks3

To me, it's not the same outcome. There's a difference between allowing and disallowing, and IMHO, that's what the IMEI does, not the CDA.

T-Mobiles cannot use SEUS, so this will be very interesting. I'd love to see if this guy's T-Mobile phone works with the SEUS after he's changed the CDA. I'm sticking with what (I think) I know.

I don't know what TAC stands for, or FAC.

So even i change the CDA to CDAgbrooks/3 and the IMEI is in the database i will be allowed to update? Sounds kinda funny.

About imei,

TAC or as it should be known - Type Approval Code is the first 6 digits in the IMEI. From these numbers you can find out what type of phone you have. For example a Sonyericsson T610 with IMEI begining with 351253, if we find another IMEI starting with that number we know for sure that it is exactly the same phone model that I have. So the TAC is not a unique thing.

FAC, Final Assembly Code - is a 2 digit number that comes directly after TAC, in other words number 7 and 8 in the IMEI number. The final assembly code provides you with from where the phone is made and from which manufacturer.

But this is maybe the interesting part i think. Next we have the SN or serial number. Its set up to how each provider wants to set it up...............................

Of course we have the CD, check digit but i am tired of typing now
