Well I walked into Vodafone and paid £420 incl the unlock code, thats without a contract.

I got it in Richmond but I think the guy didnt know what he was doing, as when I went back to swap the phone the next day the manager said he shouldnt have sold me this phone etc...but hey try your luck who knows

Vodafone stores can now sell ALL their phones offline, not just non-line handsets as they used to only do. So why the manager said that the guy shouldn't have sold it i don't know...
as for the exchange there was no way that the store was gonna refuse to exchange it...they'd take a look at the phone and say "oh yeah it doesn't turn on, must be a faulty unit" and exchange it. Even if it marques took it to the Oxford street store where there's the repair centre they'd not be able to tell it has different FW on it as they don't have the V800 equipment yet, and it's simply not worth the hassle...just exchange it, get the customer out the door and serve someone who might not be wasting your time. It has NOTHING to do with how much you spend...they have a 14 day exchange/refund policy on all things so you could've taken the unit back and got your money back if you so wished.
RE: unlocking the V800...they just key the imei into the computer, it gives them the unlock code, turn the phone on without a SIM - key in left, *,*, left - enter the unlock code. not rocket science.
i got my V800 last week...think it's real cool. Video calling is good - a lot better then when i trialed a Samsung Z105 a few months back. RE: the flash, i agree with whoever said if it were too dull we'd be complaining...it's not that bad anyway. Wish the screen was as good as the S700i i swapped for the V800, and i wish the V800 had digital zoom on all picture sizes like the S700i, but overall i am glad i switched.

@mightyhef I tried many times to buy it offline in all the major stores and they refused they said its unavailable without a contract and told me to try cpw and see if they will be kind enough..

well maybe they just wanted to keep the stock for new connections as this is how they earn nice commision...they earn next to nuffink on selling offline phones so why waste a phone on an offline sale?
