I don't quite see your point, there have been numerous improvements since the T68i; integrated cameras, better screens, more memory, video capture, better games, etc. Then there are smartphones, a major innovation.
What improvements did you want to see exactly?

T68 had a cam, had email, had [BT], had a colour screen, has wap,
granted innovations is technology have given us better colour screens, video camera etc. but i feel theres been no real leap forward. ive been working in the mobile business for 4 years now and the only real step ive seen is the step from mono to colour screen,
smartphones are no real improvement either, how old is the Nokia 9110?? im actually using my Nokia 6310i atm, im fed up of all this camera nonsense, why have phones stopped being phones? i know companies make more money from people sending pics etc. but how come i can on one hand count the amount of phones that dont have cameras? i just feel that all the big guns just want our money, buy releasing bang/bang/bang after each other new handsets, T610/T630?? what was the point? P900/P910i? whats the point?? maybe im just a pessimist but surely im not the only one that feels that the true art of making a MOBILE TELEPHONE has been overlooked here??
rant over!

Fatreg,
A bit off-topic, but I see your point. Nothing real significant has happened to mobile phones in the last two years, but that is because they have the "phone" part of mobile phones down. They don't have a whole lot of improvements to make as far as phones go. Sure, they are still making improvements as they will continue to do, but the "rest" of "mobile phone technology" (screens, batteries, cameras, etc) has been growing extremely rapidly (mostly due to marketing I'm sure). So, while there isn't really anything groundbreaking that a manufacturer could bring to the mobile phone market, they have to keep coming out with new models simply to stay competitive. For instance, if SE didn't come out with any new phones for the next two years, there really wouldn't be anything on the market that would work better than the K700, and it would still be a great phone, but if you looked around at the other phones on the market Nokia would have one with a 7MP camera, and Motorola would have one with a battery that lasts a month, and Samsung would have one with no buttons that just reads your mind (ok, I'm going overboard here). But you see what I mean? It's these little refinements that are no big leap to us consumers but are absolutely necessary to the manufacturer in order to stay competitive in the market.

the S65 is a piece of crap and I would never compare it to an equivalent SE phone.

The two above statements seem to be mutually exclusive, you seem to be asking for two seperate things. You complain that there has been no real innovation in mobile phones over the last few years; you also complain about mobiles not being phones anymore. There is only so far a mobile phone can be developed as a phone, what else can one add beyond the T68i that would keep a mobile a phone and allow innovation?
The mobile 'phone' is very much dead, it has moved beyond being merely a phone and has changed into something else, something more. Mobiles are becoming more and more like personal entertainment centres and in the near future I can see them taking on the role of payment method as well.

There's no detail on how far their agreement goes so let's not get over our heads here with speculations. I don't see anything negative about this alliance, as a consumer I only expect to see major improvements in the mobile phone market in the near future as a result of this alliance.

Whether or not the T68i cam was an attachement or not, it was a cam!! and looking at the pics on this forum id say its fair to say it takes better pics than the K700/T610 etc!
i can too see the way mobiles are going and as long as i stay in my current profession, ill have to keep selling them to the public and lying my teetch off when i say that the K700i is soo much better than the T610, at least for Nokia users its a bit different! 6310i to a 6230 is a big leap! thats the leap i want to see ever year if a mobile phone is going to develop. i feel that all the manufacturers fall into this bracket, they spend millions and millions on making sure their phone can take a picture while your eating your corn flakes upside down in the middle of the amazionan rainforest. but theyve let the reception/call quality slip very very slowly, go buy youself a 6310i and a K700 and honestly tell me which one has better signal strenght and call quality!! the only manufacturer i can exclude from the above is Vertu as they havent really changed their design in the last 3 years! good on them, a mobile phone thats calls people with the highest quality! now theres a novel idea for a mobile telephone!
