I may get ripped for this but I don't think it looks like a Japanese design at all. Like someone else said, Clamshells dominate in Japan.
This however, if it wasn't for the Kanji on the keypad, I would swear it was more Siemens than SE. Maybe it is the straight lines and industrial look of the design I don't know.
@Bart Definitely high-end as far as costs are concerned. I would expect to pay around £380 - 400 for this marvel.

We may see Japanese mobiles being available to overseas markets as UMTS spreads.

I love the black one. Please SE, make an international model that looks as good as this. After seeing the premini II i have to say, SE can do alot better than the current international phones they produce. I hope the rumour that SE is concentrating on low end phones is not true.

Why is the Premini 2 so much bigger than the first one? And why doesn't it say Sony Ericsson on the phone?????????????????

its bigger cause it has got more hardware in it. big screen, 1.3MP cam, msd slot,...
it doesn't say SE because its made for NTT DOCOMO and mostly the name of the company that builds the phone isn't visiable. something NTT DOCOMO decides.

@mustafabay
Believe it or not, but the Japanese comsider network branding more important than that of the manufacturer.

When the manufacturers details don't appear on the phone, yet you know it cmes from that particular manufacturer, its know as
OEM - Original Equipment Manufactured, just rebadged...
Much like Philips rebrands its products in USA under the Audiovox name...
