I don't see the logic in this thread and agree with what scotsboyuk has written previously.

I think everyone should do what they want. I am true to my AVATAR and use the one of the most recently purchased phone I have. People who don't own

as well as the rest of us, can choose the one they want.
Personally I like people having the avatar of a phone they own because sometimes it helps when asking questions and it just makes Esato more interesting.
I have, however, to totally disagree with the suggestion of having free avatars for everyone... I am sorry but I have seen far too many forums that make me

because of amazing number of huge, moving and tilting and signing avatars that make it impossible to enjoy a topic.
I might be "old fashioned" but I like having my phone as my avatar and a proper, sober forum.
Well, having fun is also part of Esato, but please don't turn this place into some sort of Disney Land or Las Vegas style forum...
Cheers

I'm bored seeing my T630 so why should I have it next to my name too. I wish I could get a Z1010 so that's why I use it now. I agree on not allowing personal avatars as that is what makes esato unique.
I also think a few phones are missing like the black T630 and Z500. And when are new phones like K750 going to apear here? We definaitely need more phones and more colours of existing phones. And for some reason we have T230 and T226 which are identical. Where is the T290 white and black please, and J200?

I hardly think personal avatars would turn Esato into a 'Las Vegas' style forum! There is enough tosh and rubbish posted to do that! This is a mobile phone forum, not a Chelsea club.
Personal avatars are very feasible, just put sensible restriction on their use e.g. limit them to a certain size.

on the other hand, remembering that

is the main focus here, limiting avatars to

phones gives the new person visiting the site for the first time and browsing the forums a better impression that Esato is a little more serious

forum than others

... at least until they see some of the threads!
Seriously though, I really don't think it matters to any great extent. Personal avatars would help to differentiate members from the crowd, let us stand out a little bit more. People who wanted to still use a SE avatar would be free to do so.

I always took it as given that most of the membership would be in support of personal avatars, and assumed their absence was due to bandwidth/webspace, which probably shows how much I understand about these things!
But having seen it implemented on most other forums, especially those the size of Esato, I guess it is just another Unsolved Esato Mystery..
However, I do agree that it would be sensible to limit the "special effects", as I have seen the Las Vegas effect, of which you speak, and it is annoying...not to mention epilepsy-inducing!
