Why do we have to have the ugliest contestant out of the bunch,i can find better looking women than her at my local shopping centre.You have to remember this is miss universe and not miss world,the u.k should have entered someone who was drop deal gorgeous.

I can recall miss Ireland from last years miss world and my word was she beautiful.

Dunno.

Beauty pagents aren't popular in New Zealand and are no longer supported by TV. The general feeling here is that they are a relic from a bygone (read - unenlightened) era. Women now run our country (Prime minister, Attorney General, Speaker of the House, CEO of NZ's largest company, etc,etc) and this means that anything reminiscencent of 1950's America is stamped out.

I'm not anti women, just anti political correctness.
Excuse my little rant. I don't wish to turn this into a political thread.

Me too! Lorraine Downs won for NZ in 1984 and instantly become a household name. She later married an All Black and they were basically considered royalty.
