My personal opinion about upgrades: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you are not experiencing the problems others have been talking about, most likely you don't need to upgrade.

But some people like to get whatever is the latest.

To each his own, I guess.

I have a T39 with sw version R3A002, and this are the problems I experienced so far:

1. After sending 8 consecutive text messages (sms), the phone won't open, read, or send sms anymore unless you restart the phone.

2. In the Groups menu in the phonebook, after creating 10 groups (which is the maximum allowed) the phone would only display 9 out of the 10 and 1 blank space. If you select the blank space, the phone exits from the Groups menu.

3. The phone only displays large text for the names in the phonebook (I think this is the common problem with all the t39 with this sw version).

Does anyone experienced the same with their T39?

overall, what are the benefits of upgrading, anyway? 'Coz it seems to me that so many people STILL experience problems despite the upgrades.

also, how much does it usually cost to get it upgraded at Semicon/Ericsson/Smartnet?

Just got my T39mc from hongkong. Wil upgrading software make it a T39m? Reason is that I'd like to be able to use the T9 English feature. If so, where can I have it upgraded? How much?

Thanks for the help!

depends on the upgrade... a normal upgrade will just change the software to the newer version, but still no T9 english (if that hasn't been added in the latest version)... if you want to be able to use T9 english you then have to have a different language version on the software. This can be done at the servicepoint, but it might cost around 30USD to have it changed to a different languageversion.

Hi guys,

Just want 2 share some experience and info. I had with my T39m.
Just upgraded my sw few weeks back to R3B006. I had no idea 'bout the previous release I had, but I encounter a slight problem with the display. Whenever I received or made calls, most of the time the display will disappear or distort. The guys from the service centre upgraded my phone to the new sw release, it managed to reduce the problem but now my phone start to "switch off" by it self quite often. Any of you guys out there had the same problem?....
