D'oh!! - I've done it now and it works fine.

I think my problem was I was impatient and tried copying the files directly from the zipped file which actually took ages. once I had unzipped the files properly and then copied them it worked first time.

ok i am a noob with all this navi software etc. i have a p900 and just got a bluenext gps thing.

Using nav4all, are there any sort of charges? ie does it connect to the internet or anything?

i ask because on the nav4all site it says:

6. What are the telecom costs involved?
In comparison with other forms of telecom traffic, the Nav4All telecom costs are negligible.
Significantly lower than the prices offered by other navigation service providers.

how does it cost?

also what settings do i need to have on my phone b4 installation - is it just an internet connection to download the software?

i am a bit puzzled!

hope someone can help - cheers

Well then.

Nav4all requires an internet connection to connect to their servers and download the map for the journey. It costs about 4p per hour of driving going by o2 prices on average(by my calculations anyway heh, so no guarentees )

For this you need an internet connection set up on your phone. This is most likely going to be a GPRS/3G connection from your network. You can get these details from the se website here: http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10336

But if you have a wireless network at home or something, you can use that which wont cost you anything! (as long as you always start from and download your rout at home )

In comparison to tomtom, wayfinder etc its a hell of alot cheaper if your not going to use it that much, but if your driving around daily you need something like tomtom where it doesnt cost to download maps(coz you have them on the memory stick).

your a legend!

im sitting here playing with it now, connecting to my wi-fi and planning a route to wales im going to make on thursday. So all i need to do is thirsday morning turn on phone/gps, open nav4all where it will connect to wi-fi and donwload the route. then i leave my house, disconnect wi-fi and the route will still be there?!

is there anyway to store the route so i dont have to donwload it again if i was to make the route again next week?

by the look of it it is cheap anyways even if i didnt use wi-fi?

you say it costs 4p per hour of driving? why does it cost when u are going along when you have already downloaded the map? does the internet come on whilst your driving? Im just paranoid about a massive data bill at the end of the month!

cheers for your help mate - v much appreciated!

Connections to web on route are needed for when you go off route, maybe you do a wrong turn or roadworks cause a diversion, traffic updates ETC, either way i fiind Nav4all a cheap nasty product, on P990 it doesnt impress me, even to zoom it requiires a download, my view on this is get a big memorycard & get Tomtom on your P990. because at end of day......
If u loose Wifi (or GPRS)
or phone signal
or GPS
or Bluetooth
or your GPS battery goes flat, you can STILL look at the maps that are stoored on your memory card.

I used wayfinder with P910 (trouble free almost for over a year) and M600 but found alot of issues with M600 so i dicided to switch to Tom Tom. Incidently the price of wayfinder has come down alot you can pay only 99 euroes for life.. where as previously it was 99 euros every year. I used it 5 days a week for around 3 hours a day and hardly noticed the GPRS charges on my o2 bill.

I think however for some reason i'm not destined to use TomTom, for the past 4 weeks i've been trying but still not up and running, i first had problems installing the files into the root memory, then i had the same problem with getting voices on, then found it awkward getting the code to activate, then once i sorted all that out the thing would not connect to my Parrot gps, so i ordered a new gps (tom tom gps) with overnight delivery then the parcel was lost, 8 days later it finally arrived, then before trying to use it, my M600 touch screen no longer works, tried to upgrade firmware but with no touch screen i cant even go through the set up process, so i can't use the phone at all at the moment, I also have a P990 but first i need a memory card then i can start again. As for the M600 it seems it has to go back under the warranty!
