It worked! We used the Generic North America firmware from that link, and finally got it to work around 4am that same night

It is a slightly older version of the firmware, but no worries about that if anyone's giving it second thoughts--once it's installed you can just do an update and get the newest version!

As for differences in performance: in-call volume seems to be a bit louder, while media volume is significantly louder! Almost TOO loud when on the highest setting lol.

Battery life seems better in general. I was using Helix launcher for 1.6 but I kept having issues with it crashing, for no apparent reason. That was the last straw, I uninstalled, and a few minutes later my bf got into a force-close cycle with his x10 mini because of helix launcher! He was playing around with re-sizing his icons and didn't follow directions about closing programs first. So just as a warning to anyone who uses it to save battery life... be careful!

Since de-branding I've now also been allowed to easily switch 3G off and use Edge for when I'm not browsing/downloading, and that seems to have helped my battery time immensely. Pity Rogers didn't let us have that option to start with

Thanks so much for the tutorials and links everyone, cheers!

Noob question, hoping for an answer . I just bought an x10i from Saudi Arabia and it has the Build number R2BA016. I am going to Canada in a few days. What do I need to do to debrand my phone to work on the Rogers network in Canada with full access to the app market and all apps? Appreciate it greatly.

you have an x10i. It wont work with Rogers 3G no matter what you do. You need an x10a. You will however be able to use Edge.

Cant get it to work. After copying the new files over and selecting repair again the pc companion just redownloads the firmware. I can see the 2 renamed files reset to 0kb then increase as the pc companion finish's downloading.
