Considering this announcement is so close to the MWC I wonder if has something to do with Playstation and SONY Mobile division.

WSJ seems to think it's the PS4 as well and damnit, I'm fracking excited! 2013 will be the year Sony kerplodes and begins its domination

The vita did not sell very well in any market. Sony has to do something about it and will not let die.

The Vita won't die. History well say whether the Vita is a successful device or not, but Sony will definately not let it go without a fight. It still has several years of life left in it, it has a possible future life co-operating with the PS4 and any streaming gaming services Sony comes out with.
Vitas gaming library will also be growing steadily. For an example of what is possible on the Vita, here's gameplay footage for the upcoming Killzone Mercenary that's due out in September

One does also have to wonder if games like this will eventually somehow find their way onto future Xperia phones. At some point they'll become more powerful than the Vita on all fronts (or are we nearly there now?) Exciting times for mobile gamers too! 2013 shall be an amazing year for Sony at this pace

PS Vita 2 will come after couple of years and Vita is already a amazing device and also Vita didn't have a price cut also.Its gona be PS4 not Vita 2.Sony needs to advertize Vita and reduce accessory prices and gaming price and tell the casual gamers what a Vita is.Only Hardcore games are buying Vita.
PS4 we are waiting for you Bring it on SONY.
