announcement this monday??

strange but I think something else is happening monday as well...

Nokia N95 in stores!

SE has been waiting as long as they could but the N95 is forcing them to at least announce something that can keep them at the top of the mobile world.

I hope it is good--- otherwise SE is going down a notch to the Motorola and Samsung level.

yes, SE will not have anything to compete directly wit N95 just yet, but they'll sway a different group of people to upgrade, those that are not so keen with smartphones (don't need the functions, don't like the bulk, aint pleased with the price tag etc), and this group of people might be bigger than N95's audience, too

so the keywords are

more affordable
smaller
easier to use
5MP camera phone

I'm not worried,
K800 is already undercutting N73's sales right at the start with the great value-for-price, let the lifespan be prolonged by K810 (they're making so much money with the K800 even with a lower profit margin, it's crazy seriously, the screen is cheap, the OS development is cheap, everything is cheap)

Don't think Nokia would release any other 5MP phones before SE's

Could you rephrase what you just said? Thanks. Not sure what are you trying to say here.

I really need Sofia... my K750i finally gave problems. Bought it back in May 2005 when it first came out. Spilled orange juice on it about a month or two later =\\.

Now I'm stuck with a free K610i from Three Network here in Aust. LoL.

I am hoping to pick up a 5mp, relatively slimline SE with reasonable quality video recording capability in june or july - that could still happen right?

I don't like the new user interface in the case of SE Z750. It's functionally, and the structure of the menu remained the same, so it's easy to use, altough everybody feels it so much nokia like. I could say, I am a SE fan, and i don't like that SE to assimilite with nokia phones.

The User Interface, and menu structure have been evoluating from old Ericsson menus, and UIs. The menu was quite simle in old Ericsson models, when they used just matrix displays, bat the idea of the key structure based on the Yes/send No/End call, and C keys, and of course on the navigating keys. The first model with graphical display was the T10, but only the T28 started to use the advetages of the graphical display. The T28 ordered to each menupoint az icon and it displayed in a line on the top of screen. This made the user to have a good grip of the screen, the menu, wihich became more understandable than the other brands phones.

The grid system of the menu appeared first in the T68 modell and hat was took over by the first Sony Ericsson branded modell, the T68i, which base mostly on the Ericsson T68m. In this modells appered a new key, which became necesarry because of the evoluation of the menu system. So the main keys became the Yes, No, Options, C and the navigatin keys/joystick

In the case of the T610, in 2003 the structure remained. Only the grid widened, and appeared the 12 icons menu structure (the T68 has only 9 icons). However the keyboard structure has changed. The Yes, No, Options and C keys was interchaged by the two softkeys wich function is indicated on the screen. Appeared the well-known key from Sony devices the back-key, and the C remained. But.... If you think it over the change was really minor, it just clarified the role of the keys, and a little bit enhaced the oppotinuties of the keyboard. In fact the Yes key was interchenged by one of the softkeys, which has the same role. The C remained. In function the No key was taken over by the back-key, the Options keys role was tekan over by the right softkey.
So except of the changed indications the only minor change was that the No and Options keys switched places.

Yes.............No left softkey (Yes)....right softkey (Options)
Optinos.......C Back key (No)...................C

An major upgrade was the menu of the K700, wich enhaced the multimedia capture of the menu and the horizontal navigation in submenus... and that was a positive change. Since the K700 (2004) the menu has only minor changes, only the camera menu was changed to Cyber-Shot style UI in some recent modells.

In fact the new key configuration (in the case of the Z750, and I hope only in that case) changed in negative way in my opinion. The centre key takes over the role of the Yes (and it isn't to practical in case of joysticks) the right softkey tkes over the role of the No, and the left softkey the role of Options. The C remained. But... The send/end call keys has only one role.. to start and to end calls... it's a stupid solution.

Now I have a K750, and I am waiting for the new "Sofia" modell. But I want to buy a new phone for summer... and the most of people buy camera or camera phone for summer, not before autumn.
I think unfortunately that the "Sofia" can't reach the stores in july. Just remember, in recent years the T610, K700, K750, K800 was uncovered in february, and these modells reached the stores only in july. So the "sofia" for summer is becaming more and more impossible. I think that I should remain with the K750 or buy a K800. I have had only Ericsson or Sony Ericsson branded phones so I dont want really to buy from onother brands.

I guess that for not-sonyericsson users the new UI is more pleasant, but the old SE users will be bordered a little bit. But the SE can think so that old users will buy their products -if they are a little bit bordered too about the new UI. But in this way more people will buy their products because it has no more the unique -and at the same time easy to use UI which WAS a spaciallity of the SE.
