The developer: X1 is certanly a Sony Ericsson mobil

Xperia X1 is manufactured by HTC - the taiwanese Windows mobile specialists

- But it is an Sony Ericsson mobile, says Magnus Andersson, who has lead the development of X1.

- Its no secret that we make use of HTC's manufacturing facilities and part of their development. But it is a Sony Ericsson designer who has made the physical design and it is our specifications, our trade mark and our user experience, he proceeds.

It is not the first time Sony Ericsson lets other companies manufacture their mobiles, but it is the first time external help was used for one of the more advanced phones.

Contrary the rumors about delays, Magnus Andersson says X1 is developed in accordance with the time plan, which he is proud of. He is also satisfied with that the mobile was presented relatively early at the mobile trade fair 3gsm World Congress in february.

It's the same with any OEM who uses htc. If you look at any of the major OEM's who use htc they all have their own distinctive looks and form factor. Look at iPaq's for example. They are HTC's but yet all iPaq's have a unique style different from any other WM oem.

There are even differences in material qualities. You can get el cheapo HTC's such as XDA, or more expensive one's such as HP.

It's obvious that an OEM retains control over many factors related to design and production.

Has anyone found any navigation software working with X1 yet?

BengalBoy has video of CoPilot 7 with (voiced turn-by-turn) running on the X1 while he's driving. It's near the bottom of this page under the header, "On-board aGPS (assisted Global Positioning Satellite Mapping System..." There's tons of pics and videos on this page so give it a few moments to load.

I'm thinking the extra RAM is prep for WM7...or an apology for no accelerometer

I also felt the same thing, for WM6.1 a 384Mb ram is insanely Huge! we all know that samsung i900 is running WM6.1 very fast even with only 128Mb, even the more performance hungry Win XP runs pretty well with 384Mb onboard. also if ever WM7 will be able to run on the X1 hardware then that's great!

A200 is obviously built on the philosophy of Ericsson development, however the Media Manager in SE phones has Sony written all over it. I don't know if SE outsource that work to Sony or what, but it has the same bloatware signature as Sony software. No doubt the X1 panels are also Sony influenced.

This is probably why the X1 has so much RAM, to give the Panels a chance at working well. Keep in mind the panels are like Active Desktop - each panel is an application running in memory in realtime.

TBH the panels would be almost as usefull if they were simply shortcuts with thumbnails, but they are more than that. The content of each panel is dynamically updated.

I think this is the real reason the X1 has so much RAM.

Which begs the question, how sweet X1 will run with panels disabled

btw, basic XP installs run well with 384, but "the most performance hungry" XP systems?

It would be nice.

Once you've used a phone with an acelerometer you do get quite used to it.
