It seems that sony strategy for z all along were and still is evolving the design for at least a good few years rather then changing it completely after a year+, the the rumors were just wishful thinking and the interview with the sony designer in first half was taken out of context. i don't really see a near future with "completely new design", for example, all metal instead of glass with all bezels being ultra thin, but evolution and improvements of the current flag design. this is what happens in reality as opposed to rumors that are based on nothing. i don't even think z4 will have a completely new design as it will have enough big new features like a new snapdragon and qhd display plus more. sony is doing what the other manufacturers are doing with design. evolving. they want people that never had a sony device to buy one and they want to be recognized with it.

Interesting information.

I was hoping my Z1 would last me at least 4 years before I upgraded considering how much I spent (i'm not made of money sadly ). it hasn't even been a year yet and there's all this information on a Z3.. crazy. I haven't really been keeping track of rumors lately but from the leaks I've seen, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of making me really consider an early upgrade. I would have liked to see a different design, but I guess they are sticking with what works. Improvements to the camera would have been welcome too, though I believe their efforts should be put more into the software side than anything.

Look forward to seeing what Z3 will offer, but so far, I'm not ready to give up my Z1 just yet.

I'm still hanging on my lovely Nozomi (Xperia S), planning to upgrade on Z2 / Z3 as well.
My upgrade schedule due to every two years, which will up to this August
It's depend on final Z3 will offer but if not satisfy enough I may extend and wait for Z4 in H1'15.

480fps super-slow motion from mediatek, to enable it required pairing with sony's 20.7mp sensor

It's almost to good to believe - 480fps@1080p! And Qualcoms SD810, which will be available in the beginning of 2015 only manages to achieve 120fps@1080p, that's only a quarter of it.

How is that possible? Is Qualcomm so bad or Mediatek so good?

No BIG.little? As in having 8 full-fat A57 cores, instead of 4xA57 and 4xA53 that Qualcomm's SD810.

That would mean that this SoC would run HOT. Particularly if the LTE modem isn't integrated into the SoC.

H.265 is your answer folks, this baby supports both playback and record work together with HPM (CorePilot).

I personally believe the modem is separated as well, but need to find more evidence to confirm later.

Just how embarrassing Qualcomm is adopting ARM A53\A57 rather producing optimized Krait Architecture with 64bit ARM v8

I use to believe qualcomm own architecture is better than what ARM producing in battery optimization and modem integration ..

However it was big surprise for me when they goes with ARM core... Right now it seams only Apple and Nvidia were able to produce custom 64bit ARM cores..

No, I don't think it kind of that embarrass, not defending them but NO ONE expect 64bit chipset in 2013
Apple's attack is shaking every chipset designer/maker landscape, the roadmap need to re-think to fight back.

I think Qualcomm is in rush to prevent loss, they have no time for specially design own architecture.

Qualcomm plan to play standard A53-line in affordable with MediaTek
they didn't plan to fight with Apple 64bit on high-end turf, which clearly that the guard was down.
