I c that the new P1's keyboard contains two characters in each button, which will make it a bit difficult for those of us with broad fingers to make precision typing.
Unless the keyboard buttons are designed for precision typing such as the I-mate models and the Benq P50 & P51

I also have the hardware button on the right hand side set to bring up the task manager, which is useful. There's extremely little I can't do, comfortably, without getting the stylus out.
The P990, by contrast, seems fudged - the full screen mode has been deliberately crippled for one-handed use by the placement of the soft buttons (at the top of the screen rather than the bottom) so you really have to use the flip - but all that gives you is some limited cut-down functionality, not the full range of apps you may have installed. In UIQ2 it made sense to have it, but UIQ3 is different - we're talking about an UI that's being deployed in non-touchscreen phones like the MOTO Z8, there's really no excuse for it to not be as easy to use in the SE's phones!

I have not tried the M600 so how do you move between mail folders on that device? on the P990i with flip I just press the direction pad left or right same for most tabs, on the W950 I have to resort to two hands to change mail folders and tabs

No it doesnt unfortunatly if it did it would be a help and would have made the phone much easier to use I have just this minute sold mine this afternoon!

So how do you go left and right or change tabs on a w950?

haven't you saw m600 has the same keyboard? imo m600's keyboard is very is to use.

Interesting - this could be a serious plus point for the P1i over the W960i then, since i'm guessing the respective keypads will work (or not work) the same..

Guys, don't get your hopes up too high regarding the P1. It will have the same memory leak as the P990 and even with the extra memory users will soon discover that it is not much better than the current UIQ3 devices. The wise choice, if you are still with SE by that time, is to wait for a Symbian 9.5 device and be the beta tester for that
Here is why:
Garbarge Collector
Symbian OS uses a Garbage Collector as memory manager - in theory this should ease programming.
However Until Symbian 9.5 Symbian only uses an inferior non moving collector. (To be fair: moving collectors don't go well with programming languages which support pointer arithmetic)
With a non moving collector memory becomes fragmented into ever smaller parts until larger memory requests cannot be satisfied any more. To make matter worse: Fragmentation happens a lot quicker of only little free space is available - Which is the case for early UIQ3 phones.
This leads to the dreaded "Restart to improve performance" as restarting is the ultimate way to reclaim and compact all memory. Just ending all programs won't help since there are quite a few programs on the phone which will never end.
As mentioned Symbian 9.5 rectifies this shortcomings and now uses a moving collector which will be able to re-arrange memory so that free memory will be available as one great continues lump.
XIP or the lack of it
Prior to SymbianOS 9.0, many Symbian devices used XIP (eXecute In Place) NOR based memory, which mean nothing had to be loaded into RAM to execute, but this came at the cost of very slow write times. Starting with 9.0, most devices moved to a NAND based memory system, which does not support XIP, and so EVERYTHING has to be loaded into RAM (and kept there) in order to execute. That's why it takes over 40MB of RAM to run the system, as everything is kept at all times.

@ makbil - I'm sure what you say is correct, but the truth is that the dreaded "memory leak" isn't a problem for me now on the M600 with current firmware, so it's not likely to be an issue for the P1 with twice as much memory available. I'm sure that better memory management would be a more elegant solution, and I look forward to seeing it in future devices, but the chances of my P1 ever "restarting to improve performance", when my own M600 with half the memory
never does, is practically nil.
The firmware in the current range of phones may not be perfect, but it's good enough now for mine to be perfectly stable even without any extra memory.
