From Undead on weibo (he is very mad and frustrated)
" It's very irritable. Let's say a few words. All the excuses for not using bayer high pixels are bullshit. I can tell consumers for Qualcomm first that whether it is 48mp 12bit or full-pixel raw output, or full-pixel hypersampling, all bottlenecks are not in ISP and Qualcomm. The problem lies in the mobile phone factory. OEMs and Sony, one is unwilling to use a high-quality optical mirror group, the other chooses to be the same as the same, and even their own test field is unwilling to give the highest specifications, but chooses to give other mobile phone manufacturers as experimental reference, but they are unwilling to give more."
" Speaking of which, I'm just unhappy with the Japanese's temperament. Damn it, You have made major technological innovations, and the result is to reduce costs? Can the pattern be smaller? You use the dual analog layer to make a high-speed bottom of 1/1.3 or 1inch 48mp bayer dpaf, and then do the quadbayer cost reduction, but no one said you. Is it a quadbayer cost reduction model demonstration? Is there any good? quadbayer has occupied the main stage for 10 years and you still have a credit for Sony."
" The last one, you cut the cost, right? Top flagship imx903 or his quadbayer? Is the single pixel size enough? Is it still him?[Angry]I don't want to use the fruit, right? It's better to let me see that the next generation of pro I uses bayer cfa's imx903, otherwise it's really boring. The next ten years will be the world of quadbayer."
From Cat Nya :
" It seems xperia still needs resolution and advertisement will mark out the full pixel OCL alone. After all " full pixel 2x2 ocl focusing" is a debuff, although there are some "partial 2x2 ocl focusing" cmos , but it's still mainly marketing "full pixel 2x2 ocl" which has lead some people to produce "2x2 ocl " must be full pixel use false illusion. Omnivision with the most "partial 2x2 ocl focus" looked at it and called mullet. "
I can't pick up what he is saying. Is he mad at Sony for not doing quadbayer or for doing quadbayer this time around?
Mad for xperia using QB instead of going Nokia 808 style. He also claims Semicon has Bayer 48MP bit smaller than 989. I suppose that would be Bayer version of 903? He says brands blame SoC ISP being "weak" to handle bayer high res, but he says it is lie. ISP is up to 18bit, it can easily handle 48/50MP 10/12bit dng.
As far I could understand, he claim SS suggested someone translated as Suoyi(I dont know if Sony Electronics) to use 48MP 1.6 micron with 2G6P f1.4-2.0-4.0, super wide 14mm (probably same sensor, not sure) behind f1.8 and telephoto 1/1.8" 70-105mm f3.3-5.6. He also says "Suoyi " does not accept suggestion and the backup is 1.28" (yes near 1.3 inch, not 1/1.28") 201MP, 200MP 1/1.28" for superwide and another 1/1.28" 70-120mm periscope.
WTF? This is getting out of control. No OEM, not even Apple would dare to pay for this cam setup. No way you can fit this inside any phone besides those Energizer with 18.000mAh that is 30mm thick.

Just saw that. I know it's stupid YouTube compressed video but upon the first glance it doesn't look anything better than video I shoot on PRO-I. Sure this shot was color corrected and graded but the detail wise its very similar to what PRO-I can do right now.

That is the idea, with 1/1.3" you can match 1". I just hope selfie , 14mm and periscope get dual layer as well.
from weibo: " behind next-gen pro-i is a giant circle with 5mm protusion. The lens design has a bright spot and body design rights may be in the hands of Goto and other old designers".

If performance od DL sensor is about 30% efficitent then it would make sense to apply it on small sensors first. In other words phone would benefit a lot more if it was both on 1/2.5 ultrawide and on 1/2.9 telephoto. Oh well.

Actually is not 30%. Looks like SS believes 1/2.5" DL can match 1/1.56" SL. While 1/1.28" DL beats 1" SL (60% larger). The imx989 is helpless in front 903 (1/1.14").
I think SS is gonna start with larger sensors first (1/1.3, 1/1.12" and 1") then make 1/2.9", 1/2.5" , 1/2", 1/1.7" and 1/1.5"
Now imagine if Pro-i 2 comes with 1" or 1.1" DL. 😱😱😱😱

We have yet to see actual picture quality produced by lytia sensors yet. Of course I hope it will really live up to the hype (or even better) crosses fingers

Dont know if it is equal to pro-i or better. Some crazy ppl saying xiaomi plans to test 4/3. Too bizarre, it is 2x larger than 1". No phone has space for it.

Well of course they are going to. They are chasing trends. First there were megapixels, then night shots, then size of megapixels, now it's sensor size and who knows what tomorrow brings.
989 is nothing super-spectacular to begin with. It's awesome but its no game changer. What 989 actually did for the whole market is that it shifted mobile photography toward more natural look. Chinese are tonning down the saturation and they are not affraid of constrast no more. Its a good start. Now they just have to put a break on sharpening and HDR tone mapping and they would be really close.
