Looking at the motorola press conference I wish Sony would release a phone with a really large battery as well. I could take some thickness if it had a 3000+mAh battery.

Edit.
And the main event with any RAZR Maxx is, of course, an upgraded 3,300mAh battery that promises up to 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of video playback or eight hours of web browsing on LTE. Naturally, a price has to be paid for such longevous life, but at 67.9mm wide, 131.9 mm long and a mere 9.3mm thin

Seriously, Xperia S is a f**king brick compared to this. Motorola engineers> Sony engineers

Well the Droid looks like shit compared to any Sony phone.

Indeed, but that battery size is impressive

The Xperia S's thickness is due to two things. Firstly the very angular design from the front. Curves usually make things look thinner than they actually are. Secondly the concave back (presumably for ergonomics) which makes the already fairly thick handset, even thicker.

The Moto concept is nice but in another hand has it's own issues...

first the original non-Maxx version has 1750mAh battery, so it's just like Sony...

but the way Moto has made it possible is by moving all thick parts in the phone to the top in a very little height area, there you will find the camera, speaker, antenna, front camera... the rest is around the phone ( microUSB, SIM & microSIM ports )

the space is very small so you can't put a high-end camera there, infact if you look at Droid Razr, you will see that the camera is taking almost 95% of the height of the top space rest is just plastic and separaters...
then there's the mainboard which takes the full space from top to buttom and above it is the battery... for this size and only 1750mAh, Moto can make a very thin battery, this is where the original non Maxx version has it's thin.. the battery is large in it's area, but very thin also...
the thickness was a problem as it is too thin, infact most of the thickness was just the cover and protection !!

then when they needed to do the Maxx version, they just increased the thikness of that battery by 1mm to the chemical things and that was enough to increase the capacity from 1750 to 3200...

Another thing, Moto might also used higher capacity materials/manufacturing inside the battery, higher capacity is real if you know some Li-ION batteries like 16650 you might see it vary in capacity from 2100mAh up to 2700 or even 2900 and 3000, but as a nature of Lithium battries if you put more energy in the same realestate then the battery will have shorter life, less charge/discharge cycles... that 16650 batter was an example, it uses Li-ION technology while phone battries uses Li-Polymer technology which both the same basically only the Li-Polymer allows custome shapes and designs unlike Li-ION but both has same issues and drawbacks...

So if you want crumby design and some low end camera, then Sony can make such a device, but Sony doesn't work like this

I am reading this thread and I see how fanatic are most users.. but you miss a point. Sony is number 5... or 6 globally in mobile phone buisness.. why??? I tell you ! Because in the last time made just phones... with nothing special, overpriced.. with awful pictures (video quality) when sony is number 1 in imaging solution worldwide. I personally thing that they don't want to put a monster camera.. like 1/8 12 MP with good quality becouse.. they don't want. Is frustating for those cybershot addicted fans.. sony/ericcson not having a good camera phone since 2007-2008. Don't be so addicted to one brand! If sony read this thread with users desires maybe were number 3 right now ... not in the 5th position.

They don't want to put a monster camera because they don't want....er....What? What does this even mean?

And I don't know about you, but aside from the overly aggressive noise reduction, the picture quality isn't actually that bad. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying there is nothing wrong with the sensors Sony use, just the aggressive post-processing they tend to do.

I find the Razr HD to be far better looking than the newer Sony phones except the Xperia S and/or P. Sony have become too bland for me.

I feel they were on to something with the S,P and Ion but since then they seem to have run out of ideas.

@pmugghc

I was comparing the first Maxx one ( Droid Razr ) as it's already been opened and the battery has been pictured and identified so every body can see, the new phone isn't yet available so we can only guess how Moto managed to put such a battery on it...

Go to 3:00 and see how thin the battery is ( this is the original non-Maxx phone which is Droid Razr @1750mAh, not the latest announced phone )

Erm, even Sony themselves stated that they were very impressed with the Maxx.
