Sony goes mainstream in all the wrong ways possible if that's what they are doing.

They revamped the cam UI but the output is basically the same and they used pro photographers to advertise even though they tried to bury pro features in the app.

Also video pro coming later is just unacceptable. This has been Sony's problem since forever. They change something but it takes forever to reach its potential and until then it's too late.

For standart aspect ratios, not having holes in your screen makes sense because your content could fill the entire area but for those weird aspect ratios it doesn't matter imo. Because either way there will be unused areas on screen unless stretched. A small cut at the corner wouldn't be as intrusive. That would maybe allow af on the front camera.

10vi staying 21:9 also gives the impression that Sony doesn't have direction. And 1/4" front cam on that huge bezel is....

They used to release the same phone every year, now they downgrade it and ask the same money. Because it's Sony. But they don't have that brand power anymore

How hard it was to do something like this for the UI, especially PRO tab. This is some mix of Alpha and Burano interface.

it's not that it is hard to do, but it is inconsistent with the rest of the interface. if they are gonna merge it, they had to find a way to blend all the interfaces and make it look cohesive.

i personally don't mind much of the lesser used functions being tucked under a FUNCTION button. the commonly used settings are always available to quickly adjust in pro mode. don't really understand the hate because you have to tap ONE additional button to adjust settings you probably don't even adjust for every photo?

it's not the end of the world. i happen to like the new UI from what i've seen.

Problem with new UI is that mode slider eats up a lot of space in the footer. Header is way to big and it only has few icons like Flash, shooting mode, Menu and that's about it. Whats up with flash having a dedicated always on icon anyway? Xperias always had a weak flash so I'm not sure if anyone is using it to have non-stop visible button. I could live with Shutter/AE/ISO tiny buttons on the image in Pro mode, but focal length slider above it is a big no, no. Not in a Pro mode. They should have placed the current mm number to the left of shutter so you could control it like the rest of the parameters, only when you need it (after all you have volume rockers serving as zoom).

But so far the biggest drawback of new UI are elements that cover up the framing. It's esecially bad in Video tab where shutter button along side camera slider are eating up the bottom of the screen. That's just my take. Also, I don't know why 48mp has to have a separate tab instead of being integrated in Photo tab.

yea the header, they could have incorporated as icons in the frame instead of taking up frame space. but it's not that big of a deal, i think.

i would have preferred the zoom/focal length controls to be something that popped up when you tap the subject, like the brightness and color temp controls. but it's a small complaint.

the thing with UI is everyone has a preference. I think they did a good job merging everything and we all know they will move things around as they refine the app more. but there will always be someone who is unhappy, i think.

and let's be honest... when has sony ever had a perfectly good UI design? haha

I also hope the 24mm lens can go as close focusing distance at 4 cm because it was not stated anywhere.

BTW Xperia 1VI discussion thread created.

Sony has not used mediatek since 2021. There was no news about signing any contract.

Since 1vi has 8g3 and Ace is rumored to use 4g3, that was great opportunity to have 7g3 inside 10vi, to align all series.
