Go to
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ to get the genuine fact of how to care for your battery. I can see that there is a lot of hear say in this thread, even the initial poster tip is somewhat off.

I can tell you about my experiences. I recently bought a new phone, K610i. I have charged it twice. First time 17 hours and the phone was on, second time 13 hours while the phone was off. Both times after I plugged the wire off, the phone showed battery status 100%. But for example now, after 11 hours of standby time and some calls and some other use it shows 90%.

why should one not use the phone while charging it? i talk on my k800 all the time while it's on charge, and why? cos' there's this bit at the bottom of the charger that allows me to plug my handsfree in. why would SE make such an 'innovation', if they know that it's harmful for the battery? so unless anyone has any scientific evidence why that harms the battery, i'm sticking to using my phone while charging.
and my battery has been great all along
my treo's manual goes on and on about charging as often as you can/for as long as possible...even "while using it" at the desk etc..."to extend battery life"...so what's that about???
With lithium batteries, the battery is only charged when it needs charging, it's not constantly trickle charged. So leaving the phone on the charger alot doesn't cause the phone to use up it's limited lifecycle earlier than necessary (this was a problem with older batteries).
Also, when the phone is fully charged, it stops charging until it drops below a certain level of charge. since it only charges when the battery drops below a certain level, if you use the phone while charging, the net affect on battery lifecycle is the same as if you turned the phone off, charged it until full, then used it for the same amount of time. Therefore there is no disadvantage in using it while charging.
For example, the battery drops below say 99% then tops up for a minute, then stops charging until it again drops below 99%. An old style battery would keep charging the whole time. The battery lifecycle is reduced whenever the battery is charging, so lithium batteries don't waste lifecycle charging the battery when it is allready full.
Of course the other important factor with lithium batteries is the absence of memory affect. Becuase they don't suffer memory affect, you can charge them or stop charging them at any point in the charge cycle without causing a memory affect that reduces the effective capacity of the battery (as happens with older batteries).
I charge my battery every night (with the phone on) and throught the day with the usb connection and it's not showing any sign of reduced capacity after 2 years. A NiMH battery would be dead by now with that kind of treatment. Lithium batteries are designed to overcome those old charging issues..

I charged my p990 battery up for the 1st time yesterday till it was full. I played around with it for only say 1/2 hour and it dopped a bit, not a lot but a bit.
Is this normal. I was only looking at the menus and trying to set up a new wlan account.
I didnt think you needed to do the charge and discharge thing with this phone, how have you other p990 owners faired? Could my abttery be faulty?
Thanks
