why oh why? if i have a 60gb hdd in my lappy and i format it does it only leave me with 57gb!? hmmmm what taking those other 3gbs up??

Thats how they're measured, they just express them as "Gb" for simplictiy, and its close enough isn't it?
Oh and if you're wondering why, it's cause there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, and 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, and 1024megabytes in a Gigabyte.
