@xumdeo
Perhaps that 'mildy-too-optimistic' part of me wanted the phone to be out in very early April to allow for a June release for the Sofia.

All this waiting and hoping is tiring. SE's shooting itself in the foot. After the p990i and then the speedy announcement and release of the w880 I thought they've learned a lesson. How wrong I was! Now I'm completely bored with SE.

I must say the dissapointment in SE is huuggeeee and now seeing as the k810 has not even been released yet, i doubt that they would announce SOFIA, so im guessing they will let the K810 be the phone to carry us over summer and then announce SOFIA. Now some ppl said that the k800 is still selling and why would SE announce SOFIA, well nokia announced and released the N95 even though its has four 3MP phones on the market, n80 n73 n93 n93i, so maybe SE will surprise us all with an announucement when we least expect it, meaning SOON. This is of course just speculation from me but i think its reasonable speculation seeing as K810 is to K800 as N93i is to N93.

SE can't freeze all its innovations before the k850 comes up,specially if it's for october!
I don't understand why they don't want us to get a for exemple a w580 with a 2.2'' and 3mp before the k850 is out?
I mean SE divided their phones between walkman and cybershot phones, but it's obvious that the K(ing) series are the ones that get new standars and walman phones are just copy/paste phones! apart the w900 and the smarphones ALL the mobiles from SE since the K800 can't go further 2'' lcd and 176*220 video recording...
When I see that all nolia phones are between 2.2'' and 2.4''...
Common SE stop this copy/paste and give some real new stuff for the coming phones not only k850!!

From what it seems there are a number of phones that have been announced so far this year, some of them are new with new technologies and some are basically older phones with a new shell. My guess is that the new tech phones are what would have been released had SE not been going through a phase of changing the look of it's phones and the old phones with a new case are just bringing up to date all the models that are still selling well but who'd image doesn't fit with the new SE. e.g. all the new models this year seem to be focussed on being smaller and slimmer so to bring a the k800 into line with the new look SE they announced the smaller, slimmer k810. What does that mean for Sofia? My guess is that it would be released approximately a full year after the k800, so backend of June and be announced about 1 month before as with other announcements made this year and, as with the last few, we probably won't get any good spy pics filtering through till the week before.

Just speculation, I site only myself as a source. If none of the above makes sense I'll remove it and replace it with another "I hate Sony-Ericsson for making me wait for a great phone and putting emphasis on my impatient nature. I'm buying a Nokia" statement.

on the previous page I said I expected SE to start selling some high-end phones (or at least one) just before(or at) the start of the summer season, but I didn't say WHY I think so.IF SE do it,lets say end of June, early July,SE will make many people to buy their new phone before they go somewhere on vacation. And whats the deal???Well, when it hits the shelves it will be more expensive - it happens with every new handset. So these people will be forced to buy it immediately on that higher price as they have no time to wait before they go on the vacation and so SE will make huge profit. It makes sense guys , so the new SE marketing politics may actually work!
If this is the way SE dudes think,I expect announcement in a month or so.

Dont start going by past announcment or release dates. The w950 was announced 12 Feb but no sucessors been talked of since apart from a probably codename.

The k750 and k800 were both announced at similar times of the year but nothing for any k800 sucessor.

SEs strategy has changed. They are no longer focusing on many high end phones. They will still make some but for the most part they will give up trying to compete on all ranges. Infact the only high end phones you may see are those in the w950 and m600 spec range.

SE will instead go down the road of mid range phones which bring in most of the revenue. Im sorry to say this but the p990 was a flop, the m600 and w950 could have done better.

Things are changing. If you want high end UIQ devices there may be some set for Q4 but nothing soon as far as ive been told. Unless your a die hard SE fan its time to start moving on to other brands.

And in USA they goes heads on to Motorola.

“Miles Flint Talks to PC Magazine
Sony Ericsson President Miles Flint has been speaking with PC Magazine in the U.S. and giving them an idea of what to expect from SE in 2007. Most interesting for North American SE fans is Flint's comment that SE will be expanding in the U.S. with its "largest set of devices for North America ever." Commenting on yesterday's announcements, SE executives said that that was just the beginning of the announcements.”
“The software SE uses to sync music between PCs and handsets is to undergo a "big revolution" in 2007 according to the SE executives who spoke to PC Magazine. Music syncing will be improved, and video syncing will be added.”

“SE will announce Bravia branded phones or phones with Bravia-screen in Europe / America this year. I haven't got any exact number of models, but signs point to more than 1. Also, SE will target the big America more than ever this year, trying to take some share from Motorola. This will most likely also mean that we will see some new thinking from Sony Ericsson - they will also have more time and effort into high end phones, which was part of the plan with the companionship with Sagem.”

Will your next cellphone support IMS and DLNA?

The cellphone is connected to your WLAN automatically when you come home. That gives you free/low cost phone calls. Supported by IMS.
Music or video can by played on stereo/TV, supported by DNLA.
Videocalls can be moved to your TV.

Operators connect voicecalls, chat, videocalls, streaming video, pictures, to the right person and device.
They also checks "presence" who is avaible, and in what
way. Supported by IMS.

Devices like TV, stereo, DVD, PC, cellphone is connected
wireless with the DNLS standard.

Example of DLNA devices:

SE launches DLNA phones 2H 2007. And the sync software is a "big revolution".

I think DLNA and IMS will be important, and who is the winner in this race?

1. Sony and Ericsson,
they have
NO1 content provider(Sony)
NO1 IMS provider (Ericsson)
NO1 DLNA provider (Sony and SonyEricsson)

2. Nokia
they have
IMS provider (Siemens+Nokia)
DLNA (Nokia)

3. Others
