Same happened in Germany but I guess everybody is more reasonable these days. Especially since none of the newcommers built up a UMTS network the governments will look not so much on getting money but more on getting coverage, especially on the countryside. So I hope Satio's successor will have LTE

do you really consider that LTE will propel SE (or at least the joint venture) from the dark financial clouds?

what they needs, is exemplified in two things:
1 - Radical New Thinking
2 - Creativity (usefull creativity that is)

it should definitly happen faster this time
after all building up LTE networks could give new jobs and help the economy alitte
T-Mobile Austria reported that from this day on it would take them 12months to make austria LTE compatible

the thing is that se is currently so far behind that they need a reset. and LTE would be this reset point. simply because all
companies need to start at the same level.

1 - the new EU strategy is definitly a radical turn, also the new naming system shows a nice twist.
2 - creativity would be needed in the software department. out sourcing too much stuff leads to a buggy end product and
to a generic ui design. sony has problemes in their software department since years now, but there is no proper solution on the horizon. android wants to be this allround solution - i'd prefer palms webOS, but we have to see how this develops.

but never the less, i suggest that they concentrate on one single OS. its nice to have variety - yes - but a small company like sony ericsson shouldn't have to worry about 4(possibly android, winmob,Aseries, symbian) software systems. this is taking to much resources, this can't be viable.

Of course LTE will not help SE at the moment but if they do not wanna sleep through the next wave like they did with smartphone mania they better do research on it now.
I guess it is clear that they understood what strategical change is necessary and the last announcement shows that they are moving forward.

I personally think companies should only concentrate on one operating system. This equates to more people using the OS, meaning more applications and developments = better OS.

@SE_Love: Sony Ericsson Japan is backing away from phone developments in Japan because they aren't selling well... the Japanese market is really hard to penetrate: we already know Nokia closed down their phone devision because they couldn't generate any sales. LG is now trying, but they aren't doing that well either (better than Nokia I believe), and Samsung's always been flat in Japan. I hope and have heard Sony Ericsson might enter back into the aggressive DoCoMo market again right after DoCoMo begins LTE network subscription later on this year/early 2010... which is kind of funny because you guys are talking about SEMC and LTE network as a "reset" point.

LTE is not a "reset point" but is is the next chance to miss what modern consumers will be asking for on mobile devices. Look at the data usage on the networks, it is exploding. And it is not only about the data rates it is also about stability. Switching between UMTS and GSM areas still is no fun. With LTE this should be less problematic. To get this tec into slim devices is quite a challenge, so...

Honestly, this announcement and following price politics is big loss for SE, can we expect in June some devices to be announced? With this on battle field can't survive even to the autumn which is declared as a launch date of theese tree new devices

I don't think this will be the only summer announcement. I suspect there will be another next month, I have seen a pic of the next Xperia and it looks quite good.

I'm just hoping there is more good advanced gear. We've seen the w995 already, all that is missing is a similar Candybar Cyber-shot which should be in the pipeline.
