Well, since Nokia by Microsoft is rumored to discontinue its 1020 successor and Samsung still believes in their crappy Zoom , Sony might as well steal the show with this new curved sensor (if they can mass produce it asap) in a full-fledged camera phone with a Xenon flash and a dedicated imaging chip. Though they should still have the main flagship along with this one, it's like a part of their flagship line.

The canceled device was not an imaging flagship, it was about "3D Touch" .

News around the 1020 successor are yet to surface, but you can be sure that there will be one eventually.

Despite that, Sony have an opportunity to be more competitive with the new tech.. they've been behind since 2009 so I think its time to take this thing a bit more seriously

So my question is, is it still Qualcomm MSM8974AB but just overclocked to 2.4GHz or is it Qualcomm MSM8974AC underclocked?

Ah damn, and then I got reminded of the measly 16GM internal memory
Why do Sony keep doing this?

so sad that 32gb is not the minimum memory even now. perhaps sony is thinking they can implement their own APP2SD on kitkat so there's no need to add more memory? still, i'd much prefer to have more onboard memory in this day and age.

i hope Z3 has more to offer than what's been leaked so far. It's barely different from Z2. A surprise would be nice, but i doubt it. Looks like I won't be tempted to upgrade yet, which is good.

Hopefully, sony will still be making phones in a few years...

I think the only major difference we can identify so far is the IR blaster on the Z3. I'm very excited that it's there as I absolutely love Sonys universal remote control app and miss using it on my old Tablet S.

*sigh* Time is moving so slowly towards IFA and Photokina... hoping for Sony to drop some big bombs at both events!

lol!

Ya know, I have to wonder. If the Z3x rumours are completely false, I wonder what Sony Mobile people are thinking when they see them. I mean if they aren't planning anything remotely like it, will they hopefully get the idea that there may be a market for such a device? It'd be funny if a fake leaked rumour could be powerful enough to influence Sony to take action.

Either way, while I would absolutely LOVE for the Z3x to be real, there's just so much going against it. The screen is probably the most implausible feature, aside from those silly flash/mic accessories. AFAIK Sony produce their own OLED panels for their Trimaster series, so it begs the question of IF the rumour is true, will they be making it in-house, or repurposing someone else's OLED panels? If they are making it in-house, do they even have the capability of producing enough panels for something like this? I'm guessing of the two options, it's more than likely they would obtain panels from someone else (AUO?) and rebrand them.

The camera itself is a bit hard to believe too, but this new curved sensor tech could open up the door to all sorts of improvements, so who knows.

Also, I've been thinking about an article on the Walkman ZX1 that recently came out and this quote by a Sony product planner:

"The message for our designers and engineers was: please create a good product without worrying about the cost,"

I have to wonder if this sort of mindset will be applied towards any other Sony products. An ultra high end phone would be absolutely amazing.

They could either use AUO or JDI as their supplier for OLED panels, both of those companies have fullHD panels with RGB pattern and even RGBW in case of JDI. Question is if they'll be able to calibrate them nearly as good as Samsung with their recent panels.
