that's why: SEUS athenticates the phone against a list of these CDAs, with each one having a latest allowed version.

yonks ago there was a nice list on here, but i think it was for p800's or p900's, not even the p910i. it listed all the specific types of CDA and their country / carrier.

get searching and you may find they're all largely the same.

Here's a sample of a picture taken with maximum zoom. The portrait on the wall was approximately 14 feet away. Zoom was set to maximum. Autofocus simply cannot lock on at maximum zoom. Maybe after 15 tries, it locked on correctly once.

This is absolutely not the kind of autofocus zoom quality you'd expect from a premium line flagship product. I just hope it is a firmware issue.

Phone settings:
Shoot Mode: Single Shot
Frame Size: Can be anything - 320, 640, 1280, 1600
AutoFocus: Normal
White Balance: Auto
Light: On or Off (same problem)
Effects: OFF
Quality: Can be anything (Fine, Normal & Economy)
Night Mode : ON or OFF (picture is much more noisy with it ON)
Save to: Memory stick pref
Auto Review: ON
Shutter SOund: Sound 1
SelfTimer: OFF

Firmware: R5A006

Hi dineshrai42, welcome to esato I had faced the exact same issue and had posted this over at our local SE community, SECentral Huh, thought I was alone facing this issue all these while... Here's what I had faced:

Using Zoom:
1. Auto focus fails 80% of the time. It became blurred when I tries to press lightly for the auto focus to adjust. Ended up gotta turn it off cos it is too unreliable...

2. Pics taken seems "dark"... I took pics in broad daylight, all settings are standard, no fiddling of the daylight, night mode, etc. But the resulting pic looks as if I took the pic during evening Sun set time, which looks much darker. Of course, it looks ok on the phone, but once transferred to PC, the pic is definitely much darker than during the time which I took the pic, e.g. noon time.

3. The Camera lens seems to loose focus in broad daylight. I took videos in the wide open, moving the camera on a 180 degree turn and back, the resulting video is 1/2 the time the colour is correct, i.e., daylight, but half the time, the colour suddenly changed to evening sunset colour, as if the video is taken under a tungsten lamp.

4. The noise reduction is too much???... e.g., I took a pic of someone in under bright sunlight. The person is wearing a sunshade cap. Pic taken ended up cannot see the face at all! Since the cap blocks the sunlight from shining at the person's face, the face obviously becomes darker, but the camera seems to completely ignore the dark shadow and completely wipes off the person's face. So end result, you see the hand, the clothes, the cap... BUT NO FACE!

Hi Adnhk1,

Thanks for the welcome

I don't know if I should feel better knowing that others are having exactly the same problem ... But this is pretty serious indeed for a thousand dollar+ phone. I don't understand how autofocus is working for some and not working for others.

You're right on the dark pictures too. It's like they are being taken during overcast skies, when instead it was bright sunshine.

Now we just need to get to the bottom of this being a manufacturing defect or firmware issue. What's your firmware revision?

And do you have the link to SE Central?

Hi dineshrai42,

sadly, I am still on R3A firmware (released 18 Aug 2006) as the current version of BB client does not work with the latest firmware

I truly hoped it is firmware issues and not batch issue cos else all Asia batches may be affected if that is the case

Edit: btw, check your PM

@Dineshray42 :

Concerning the zoom problem
these are my firmware numbers :
phone: CXC162037 R4B001
BT : CXC162058 R4F01
Org : CXC162036 R2A04
CDA : CDA162008/55 R1A03

My phone is bought in Belgium , on the back of the phone it sais 'made in France'

Also , it is very hard indeed to get a bright picture . the pictures all look cloudy even when the flash is used . no matter if you're zooming or not .
