GSMArena's G900 preview's clearly showing that the phone seems to be getting exactly the same camera module as in the K850i
Have a look at the full size photo here and look especially down in the left corner and you'll see very juicy purple fringing.

do you honestly think they would put a better camera module than k850īs on a cheaper phone??? the better should be on the k850 successor...

on the other hand, it should be better than the P1/W960 sensor

it looks like the G900 and G700 white papers have been taken offline for quite a few days. Either they were released accidentally at first, or they've been taken offline for some downgrades, I fear (like was the case with the W960).

In GSMarena's review, it looks like the media player is quite basic, which is in direct contradiction with the WP which says the G900 features a W960-like music player with all options, including mood and ratings. That doesn't seem to be the case on the handset previewed by GSMarena.

Hopefully that won't be downgraded.

So you expect the G900 to be cheaper than the K850? That'd be good new indeed! If the price is right then I wouldn't mind the poor quality camera. I can always shoot in 2MP mode to improve quality, or resize and enhance in PC afterwards, like some people do in the K850 photos thread.

I agree the problem is probably a technically based issue with UIQ, but SE could solve it quicker if they thought it was necessary, by throwing more resources at the problem. Since they haven't bothered to max out the effort on fixing the problem just yet, I assume they don't think they will lose out too much by not having it in UIQ phones for the next 12 months.

I also think it's hardly likely that they turned to WM just to provide HSDPA in a smartphone. The WM strategy has nothing to do with HSDPA imho, but more to do with capturing some of the strong WM marketshare.

Max_wedge, as a P990i owner that's working on a UIQ3 platform, I know full well how they "max out" their effort. I seriously doubt SE has the ability at all technically to support HSDPA with the present UIQ platform because now even the mid-range, non-smartphone K660 has HSDPA. Look, it's obvous it has more meaning in a smartphone than a dumbphone and I'm sure they already see its importance, I just can't
see why they don't "see" the need when they have provided the technology to other phones whose target users don't even give a hoot about HSDPA as you mentioned.

Hello!

I wonder if G900 and G700 has any play/pause button for music/radio? It's very convienient to be able to start/stop music without having to enter the phone menu.

How about the softkeys in the lower part of the screen. Are they working as in the K850? My friend, who has an K850, is disappointed with these keys, since he rather often accidently presses the button with his chin, when mobile talking. This leads to the phone sending SMS without his knowledge, for example. Has SE done anything to prevent these things from happening with G-series?

Thanks!

BR Martin

@eztoril
One of the many advantages of a smartphone is the ability to customize your phone just the way you want it, and with a shortcut menu at your display screen similar to that of P1, you can assign the media player button to it and access it in a single touch, just like a dedicated hardware button even if it doesn't have one which brings me to the same question, is there one on the G900?

Greetings
I've seen a lot being debated about the G-series processor here....From what I've read here...the G-series is based on a new processor....the EMP (Ericsson Mobile Platform) Arm 9.....so I wanted to clarify something....

Actually, Symbian smartphones typically need a baseband processor and an applications processor...hence the dual core architecture......so in the case of SE UIQ phones, EMP is the baseband processor and NXP is the application processor....This means even the W960/P1i etc all use EMP and NXP apps processors.

As we've heard G series has the EMP processor, then I guess they don't have the nexperia chip...or maybe it may be that processor wise there's nothing's new in the G series!!

But I can see the speed has been improved a lot...so I guess we'll just have to wait and see if we can get more news on how SE did this.....

Here's a bit about Ericsson Mobile Platforms
Ericsson Mobile Platforms offers complete, end-to-end interoperability tested platforms across 2.5 and 3G. A common software platform for GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, and HSPA terminals enables application portability, stability and security, and state-of-the-art power consumption and size. Ericsson has the smallest, most cost-optimized HSPA chipset in the market, making it possible for its customer to enable ultra-small HSPA phones.

by the way....this is a bit off topic...but as we are talking about processors....we know currently SE is using EMP processors....the next generation of processors is going to be 'U500 mobile platform'

The U500 mobile platform is a highly integrated solution with three ARM11 CPUs providing world class multimedia performance including a 12 Mpix camera, camcorder (MPEG4, H.264 D1@30fps), TV-out, MIPI camera and Display I/F, HW Video Encoding and Decoding D1(H.263, H.264, MPEG4 (AS), VC1, DivX,), and Mobile TV (MBMS phase 2, DVB-H, Unicast). Connectivity solutions include WLAN 802.11, wireless USB(UWB) and high speed USB. The U500 supports quad-band WCDMA radio, 7.2/5.76Mbps HSPA broadband capabilities, a world class security solution as well as highly optimized power consumption.
The U500 is the first mobile platform to support 4x full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA) with no performance penalty, boosting the quality of all graphics rendered to the screen. ARM Mali software will be provided as an integral part of the U500 platform software. The close link between graphics processor and middleware (the Mali Graphics Stack) reduces the time-to-market and integration risks for handset manufacturers. As well as the Khronos standards, the Mali software supports the Java JSR standards for 3D and vector graphics maximizing the options for third-party software developers and backwards-compatibility with existing Ericsson platforms.

I have posted more about it here:

I love the sticky NOTES improvement of G900/G700. Finaly we have a true handheld organizer! Wait, is Voice Recording in the NOTES included? Voice Recording in the NOTES application is very useful especialy while driving..
