The X range and Z range are/will be different ranges, although, this first generation of the X range (particularly the X Performance) was so that Sony didn't waste its R&D on what would have been the Z6. The real Z6 will have more of a drastic step up in specifications from the Z5, as opposed to the step up between the Z5 and X Performance.

i cant figure out what sony thinking bu try to understand , these phones looks midrange to me, it's true x performance have better specs then z5 ,but they will be relased @summer , if the plan isnt changing there will be a new flagship @summer , even xperia x has strong hardware close to z5.
x performance's 8,7 mm thickness, have 2700 mah battery and 3gb ram , these specs doesnt look to me 2016 flagship.
xa is low midrange, x is high midrange and performance is super-midrange. pricing will be the key.
it has a similar logic to last z series,
flagship level
z5,z5c,z5p (same hardware , different size)
mid-level
x,xa,xp (same size, different hardware)

Seems the X performance won't be going on sale in the UK or germany, wonder which EU countries will get it.

Sony Mobile must be really trying hard to destroy any reputation they have....X Performance??Really? That name is simply awful!!!Also, what's up with the 4 months later release? The last phone they launched was z5 premium and that was in November..Xperia XA shouldn't even cost more than 200euros...really similar specs with m4 aqua...yet it will launch at 300euros.The way Sony goes they either have a joint venture coming or they are planning for a quite shutdown.

What about HP Elite x3?
Fits the size of your Ultra and has all the mandatory things to make it interesting enough to consider.
Brushed metal can never look outdated according to me
Well HP is not A company I trust. Windows Mobile is not my thing

if I were to leave Android, it is iphone for me. My priv is kind of growing on me right now. The Ultra however is my True Love

)) I will wait for ifa. If nothing good happens, then I'll sell both and go with iphone 7 plus. (because I know it will be released in the 2nd week of September) every year and will be redesigned every 2 years. Simple roadmap that does not f... With customers.

Isn't this what we have heard since the original Z? The next one will be the real deal! Same for Z1, Z2 etc.

I just keep repeating to myself, "There will eventually be a new Z Ultra! There will eventually be a new Z Ultra!"...
...
*sigh*
Ah well, wait and see.
I will say that I like the direction they've begun to go in with these X phones in terms of design. Metal back and rounded screen edges are very nice touches. The front facing speakers taking design cues from the Z3 are also perfect. It does make me excited for the eventual Z6 release as they'll have to aim to top the X series... at least I hope so. This is supposed to be the year we see their new design language, and by the time IFA rolls around they should have their new smartphone manufacturing facility up and running. Actually, could that be part of the reason the X series won't be coming out until Summer? They could be planning to manufacture it in their new facility, so they have to wait for it to come online.
Anyways, for now I'll just keep waiting... There will eventually be a new Z Ultra! There will eventually be a new Z Ultra!

Releasing the phone in June seems reasonable. Sony did release Z2 and Z4 in June. If they did not release these phones in MWC, they will have pretty nothing to show.
Anyway, I am glad they they did not bring out their flagship this time round. They are more like items to please fans rather than making profit. Unfortunately, I do not see how Sony can turn the new X series into profit either.

Well... so long Sony??
I can't defend what they have now done, so it certainly seems they are scrapping the Z line and have replaced it with the X line, of which I cannot buy the 'high mid range' Performance model in the UK. And it's priced too high also.
So what about the Compact? Are they even going to make another high end small phone? I mean at the present I will be buying a Galaxy S7 once the price drops, it offers everything I want in the smallest size there currently is. I'll just have to deal with TouchWiz.
I have no idea what Sony is thinking right now, but to replace the current flagship with an updated device, and not offer it for sale in my country, and then not introduce a Compact version which may also now not be available in my country, is not the way to go to make me buy their products.
did no one see the article stating they have ditched the Z line up and replaced it with the X line then?

lol, why so dramatic? We have no official confirmation that the Z series is being replaced by the X series. It's been long rumored that Sony was going to break away from the 6 month release cycle of the Z series, and it looks like that's happened.
