With ~2% market share, yes sure they should release a WP hs, why not, they have nothing to loose.

Except $$$ dropped on Research and Development.

What $$$? They can reuse their flagship hardware. WP is FAAAR less demanding than lagdroid. 8.1 can be run on last year flagship hardware easily. Minimum investment, great exposure, because let's face it when HTC releases their 8.1 set and LG will do the same late 2014, they are up for another race Sony can't afford. Yes most WP sets from top-tier manufacturers have been afterthoughts so far (except nokia for obvious reasons). It's about to change with 8.1 onwards.

WP should start supporting OS upgrade for at least two generations first or it's almost DOA for all

I would love to see SONY come upo with few WP flagships.Better to do it now than before every OEM starts making them.SONY needs to gain the upper hand soon.

Those two that turn their head into WP because of Android has no sales for them, it isn't help much WP market is clearly dominated by variety of Lumia device the mobile division of M$ anyway.

They just want to clear up stockpile of inventory parts in other way round, which Sony well managed into 6-month flagship policy in such fast pace shifting trend.

Z3 compact

Dimensions compared with Z1 compact - everything is a bit smaller - thinner, shorter, less width
Weight - ca 10g lighter

Display size - using a ruler I would say 11.6mm eg 4.56 inches

Same style stereo speaker holes as Z3

Sides are plastic not metal as Z3. (at least on prototype)

SW: One new thing both Z3s have is a ULTRA Stamina mode:
Disables all communications except phone (and sms) and leaves only selected apps (sms, camera, album, fm radio (but not mp3 player), calendar, alarm, contacts)

Windows Phone is a failed OS. Even with Microsoft's billions of dollars in advertising, they can't gain a foothold. Even paying developers to create apps for the platform hasn't gotten anyone interested. It's over. Microsoft had a chance in 2009, MAYBE even as late as 2010, but they failed to create a compelling product and in the mean time Google and Apple had conquered the mobile world and divided it between themselves. There was, and is, no space remaining for the orphan that is Windows Phone. Especially now that many users are entrenched in one side or the other's ecosystem, and while Microsoft's app selection STILL remains incredibly weak compared to Android and iOS, and the OS itself offers nothing that the other two don't do better, it's over for Windows Phone. Of course Microsoft can afford to keep it on life support indefinitely, with steady cash transfusions, but it will never walk again.
