can any one help me to sort out this?

back biting is equal to eat the meat of your true brother but on the other hand many women do this & say its not a evil deed we are just passing the time. now tell me that just for the sake of time pass can some 1 do this?

font-size: 20px; color:blue">For each & every aspect of life, we've Quran,Hadith & Sunnah for guidance. Nabi Pak (S.A.W.W) is our Role Model and HE (S.A.W.W.) is the living pratical Example of Quran.
So Don't listen & bother what a woman says; its of no importance unless according to Quran & Hadith.

Now back to topic:
Backbiting (yani geebat) is one of the Worst sin (Gunah-e-kabira). And this sin is even greater than the adultery & fornication(Zina).

font-size: 24px; color:red">I'll give detailed reference from Quran & Hadith in the end.

font-size:20px; color:blue">Its simple definition is to say something bad about your muslim fellow (bro/sis) in his/her absence which is present in him. And if it is false imputatioin (say something abt someone which is not present in him), then it is called Calumniation or Bohtaan. (Which is greater sin than backbiting).
So never even think of committing it. And also avoid gatherings where people are indulged in such activities.
For timepass? You knw the answer now: Not at all.
And for a Momin (True Muslim) time is not a time-pass thing. Instead he uses/utilizes it.
(Momin k lye waqt guzarney ki nai blkay istimal kernay ki cheez ha.)

and gossips and back biting is same thing?

Nope, its not always the case. Depends on you.

wat exactly is "back biting?" like if you share some of your sorrows with your friend or mentor and it about for example your father or hubby or brother...still its back biting becasue it still about a person?

font-size: 20px; color:blue">Yes you can share your problems with a mentor etc. but in Islamic limits. For detailed info read the pages-snaps i've attached at the end.

font-size: 20px; color:blue">Geebat is allowed in some situations and in those conditions, its not a geebat. e.g. Backbiting Against an Adulterer(Fornicator), tyrant (cruel ruler) is allowed.

font-size: 20px; color:blue">Now for detailed reference, i've taken snaps from selected books including Quran-e-Pak (Kinz-ul-Emaan), Tafseer-e-Mazhari Volume-11, Tafseer Zia-ul-Quran Volume-4, and Ahyaa-ul-Ullooom Volume-3.
