It is proven that most of the human population cannot see the difference between 262k an 16.1M of colors. Human eye can differentiate about 1M of colors in laboratory conditions. And mostly this number is smaller in normal conditions. And 8 bits of 16.1M is used for alpha (image transparency) so the exact number of colors is not 16.1M.
What I really want to say is - I don't need 16.1M, 262k is cheaper. Instead of that I want f.e. bigger lcd with bigger resolution (480x240,16:9)

I dont think the source of that rumour was Esato from what I can remember. It appeared on other sites first.
