I wonder if anyone would have any ideas on the delay for Australia (and other similar countries) in receiving new models after they have been officially released in the UK and the States?
Storefolk that I speak to in Aus naturally aren't much help!

Actulally I don't the delay will be too bad. At most a month. I mean, the W810 is actually available right now on Optus, albeit on a $75 a month plan. I feel really sorry for he states though. All their mobiles are like clamshells and some of the tech there is pretty dated, or so I've read.

This site states that the high speed function only works:
When combined with compatible products with a parallel interface.
PS: Isn't it annoying that the Australian Sony site pleads complete ignorance in the way of M2 cards!?
EDIT: Sorry, the link isn't entirely accurate as it is a frames page. Selecting any of the high speed cards from the right-hand collum will show you what I am talking about.

I hope that the US will finally get a decent phone through our GSM providers at a decent price... While in Europe you can get pretty much the newest phones for next to nothing with a contract, here we end up paying 60-80% of the retail price for the phone even with a 2 yr contract
Then again, we get LOTS of minutes included in our plans

Yeah how does that work?? Does the public like it?
Coz our Communication Asociation wants our SPs to do that, more free minutes and sms bundles and NO free phones...
They rather let the customer pay in 60-80% on the handset cost and get more free minutes....
I dont like it that much.... the free phones matter more I think.

I'm honestly not sure how much an average phone bill in Europe is, but I pay about $135/month and I have 4 phones that that covers using one pool of minutes (mine, my wife's and my parents') We use about 1500 minutes a month and I'm not even close to running out of my plan's minutes (lots of free minutes - nights after 9pm, weekends, same network mobile to mobile are all free) I myself use the bulk of those minutes at about 800-900/month.
On the flip side, in the US we 'pay' for both inbound and outbound minutes.

Not bad!! Esp the free weekend minutes!!
So you guys pay for recieved calls to??? Thats crappy!!
But here in South Africa we have a package for $135, U get 1000 minutes free billed per second, 50 sms and a phone to the value of $900!!!
Its more or less similar I think... but we a little better of imo, Europe has better deals coz theres more competition between networks!

Don't forget that for $135 I get 4 different phones and just as baseline I get 1500 minutes (plus all the night/weekend/mobiletomobile which don't come out of the 1500). I also get to call nationwide and go anywhere in the US on the Cingular network. There are regional plans from T-Mobile which are $50 for 3000 minutes but they are good for 3-4 states (cloes to 1/3 of Europe in size in the case of where I live
)
