Got to say my 3gs here with o2 holds a better signal than the iphone 4 and Apple should own up to a hw problem, I now know why they released there own bumper cases

I think who tested the iPhone 4 prototype; he was left handed. That’s why he didn’t find any problem.

Well the rubber bumper that is supposed to solve the problem should ship free with the phone - and not be on sale for $29.

Why should people need to use bumper cases anyway?the phone should work perfectly with or without them as did the previous iphones

Because until a fix comes out it's the only way of securely holding the phone in your left hand and as some tests have shown, the screen isn't unbreakable, regardless of what the marketing would have you believe.

Right-handed users will be forced to put the call on loudspeaker if, for instance, they were asked to grab a pen an paper to take down a number.

am not a fan boy in anyway but its been shown that the 3G and 3GS share this issue that if u hold it a certain way the signal drops quickly.

I've found it not to be a big issue if you get a really strong signal anyway. mine drops one bar in good areas and more in bad areas. BUT, i've also found that the way i hold my iphone means i dont get this problem.

All they need to do is put a thin film of laquer on the outside edge of the antennas. u still get the look and feel of metal but no actual skin contact with it so signal issue shouldnt be as bad....

Am happy with mine and happy that i have a clear silicon case coming from ebay for £3.

I have been using the iPhone 4 since yesterday... and to be honest It is not a major problem as they way i use my handset it does not affect me... But I would like to see how Apple aim to resolve this...

Interested to see if it's a HARDWARE or SOFTWARE issue... Let's see

Some are saying it's a software problem, with the signal strength indicator not showing the correct reading but there are youtube vids showing otherwise. It's to do with the metal casing being part of the antenna, with the skin on the hand bridging the wifi and gsm antennas.

If it's not a software problem, and a design flaw, then that could be one hell of an expensive recall.

I'd like to see how they handle this too. Right now Steve Jobs is just telling people not to hold the phone a certain way.

I can certainly reproduce the problem but its not a major issue as the work around is to simply hold the phone differently

obviously, it would have been better not to have to think about how I'm holding the phone though, so yes, a bit dissapointing that such an obvious error exists

Sorry but to me that's simply not acceptable I want to be able to hold my iphone the way i want not the way Apple wants me to hold it
