Why do they put an mp3 player on "business only device"?.
mp3 is only an audio format, not necessarily music. you could use it for playing back meeting recordings or even instead of using tapes for learning a language

This is only my opinion so no flaming.
The gaming buttons would not put off a business user at all, as it would not affect the way as "Business User" would use it.
What is a business user? I use the phone for e-mail, I use the Word/Excel packages and the Calendar functions for work, therefore am I a business user?
I would use the gaming functions, as it would only be an addition to what the phone can be used for therefore it would appeal to a wider audience rather than a specific one.

So, do you seriously believe that if the phone was shaped more like a Nokia N-gage QD than a P series, it would be popular with business types ?
I work in a managerial role where im employed. Such a device would never be considered a sensible device to use. The popular devices we use are often Nokia communicators, or the odd P series phone. The powers that be where i work would never use something like a N-gage.

If it was shaped differently then no I don’t believe it would.
But the idea was to add gaming buttons, not to reshape the phone. I can see what you are saying, but if the button shape was slightly changed or additional buttons were added to make gaming easier then I don't believe this would make any difference to how business users would see the phone.

Looking at many pocket PC / smartphone devices they have a small group of buttons at the bottom of the screen that can be used as directional controls for pointers, menus - or games. Seems like a good way to do it to me.
Of course with the P990 having a qwerty keyboard under the screen it shouldn't be difficult to use some of those for games.
The buttons don't need to be special game ones, just in a position to be useful for them.
Re: why an MP3 player - personally I think SE added it for music not for people to listen to business MP3s. Businessmen have to travel on the train. They too like music and games to while away the minutes.

I think that the new layout of the qwerty keyboard is great...you cant use the p910's qwerty keyboard at night due to no back light of the keys...the keyboard has to be at a 90 degrees angle to be able to get a small light source from the screen.
The p990's qwerty keyboard seems to be made of a semi-transparent rubber material, looks like it will be backlite

There has been so much bashing of this phone even before its official release, why don't we wait for it to become available for testing before further comments are made. I bet the mojority of those bashing this phone will eventually end up loving it.

Its well designed. Most business agents on a long train or plane ride are going to endup listening to music and reviewing their powerpoint, word, excel presentations & documents for their business trip. And i'm not talking a few dozen texts the size of this thread in total but a serious contract with fine print.
Smartphones like the P990i fit this completely >> sure music is great and a neccessity as its what moves our souls but it isnt the focus of a business mobile traveller.
However again this keypad is needed and perfect for the scenario I've stated within this post. BlackBerry handheld smartphones are NOT the best looking phones, they dont even suppport music functionality nor video/camera recording BUT businessmen/women swear by their productivity in the millions around the world! It has a purpose and the success is 50% because of its keypad.

@etaab, nozza, mad_bob: Compromise solution- Since the flip can obviously be removed, provide an additional flip keyboard with game friendly buttons? Da?

pfftt...people complain that if there was gaming options then it wouldn't be aimed at the business users.
I think that it should look like a business phone and that its MAIN priority is business features. Adding gaming options, etc will be a great add on as it will be an all-in one phone and it can entertain while you dont do your business on the phone...who doesn't want to escape once in a while to play a good game of cards, etc
The more features the better, i mean...at least it will keep us going right?
