Good news !!!!!
SEMC Blog wants to wish you a Happy New Year! And let the new 2009 bring you only pleasant surprises! Sony Ericsson also prepared some pleasant surprises for us. Some of them will be released very soon - in February, others will be released later. Cyber-shot portfolio will be significantly increased. Cyber-shot portfolio got new form-factors, touch-screens, 12-Megapixel cameras and optical zoom! Walkman portfolio also got some updates. I would like to highlight a new Walkman 4.0. It will be real surprise. I would say, that new Walkman 4.0 supported themes. Yeah!

yes it is good news...
but we should see if any of those will see the light of the day......... as cancelling is a very common habit of SE these days.

Give me a 240x320 3.2mp F series phone as the succesor of the F305 and that W705 will get the finger from me. And an imaging and music version of F305? So wait now it comes to versions of phones? Hmm SE is taking bold steps and i like it.

The 12MP Cyber-shot (Kokura?) sounds very promising. Though I don't know if I'd expect it to debut at MWC. Aren't Cyber-shot phones (the flagship) usually reserved for mid-late summer? Still, it's something to look forward to...and the C905 WILL need a successor and it's obvious the specs will be improved.

I was a little disappointed that the post contained no new info about the X series, but I am sure that is soon to come. None of the other series impresses me that much anymore because of the same old proprietary OS. However, maybe some of those touchscreen phones will shake things up abit (touchscreen walkman not mentioned?). Can't wait for MWC this year, as I'm sure SE would want to repeat the way they stole the show last year. Happy new year to all here BTW.

The X-series is very interesting, but the Cyber-shot phones remain one of my favorite sub-brands.
Are TS, 12MP and OZ features of a single phone, or features of three separate devices? Hopefully it's all-in-one. The original Kokura rumor had an S60 touch device with a 12MP sensor. Hopefully OZ is included too and not in a different model. Though I would fully expect the Cyber-shot flagship to have all of this. It's a natural progression.
Here's the original rumor:
http://mobilementalism.com/20[....]xel-camera-on-its-way-in-2009/
So it seems a TI OMAP3 (
3430 according to Eomer) device with S60 5.0 over Symbian 9.4 with touch and a 12MP sensor, microSD, but no 3.5mm jack or USB.
This seems like what the SEMCBlog was referring to.
The one problem I have with the rumor is the S60 bit. While SE is a Symbian Foundation member, they're not licensees of S60, are they? Or does membership in the Foundation automatically mean they can make any Symbian device?

In the first day of 2009 year SEMC Blog prepared for you a few news. Now I can confirm, that new Sony Ericsson flagship with codename Hikaru will be Walkman-device. As you know, Hikaru will be nice slider with metal housing and high-end features: 2.6″ screen, 8-Mp camera, 8 GB memory, Walkman 4.0, 3.5mm jack, stereo speakers and special music keys on the side. Hikaru will be released in the end of Q2 2009.

hikaru would have been nice in 2006, its 2009, and nokia is droppin a phone with 32gb of storage ... 8gb is paltry these days esp when they have microsd cards that are 2x the density ... SE needs to get with the program.

Well 32gb is good, only if the phone can handle it. My n96, cannot handle over 10gb of music, and the phone would be soo slow and freeze every now and then!
And with 369mhz , I dont think n97 can handle 32gb(unless they have improved their os)!
