I would like to see the Zoom in photos, in video it was bound to be not so good being digital... :/
Look here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn2yLRNyWmg
This is nokia 1020 zooming during video... definetely better... but the nokia video is always searching for focus, all in all it's a bad video, and the stabilization (taken the fact the the Nokia guy was still, while the Sony guy was continously moving) is better on the Z1..
All in all I prefer the Z1 Video
look at this taken outside

In photos it's also digital. And Sony could have make better zoom in videos, it's just that they apparently don't know how. AFAIK Nokia is the only company that can take advantage of big sensor for zooming in videos...
The 3x clear zoom Sony is advertising is probably something silly. Like You can take a 2MP photo with that only. The same effect as You would crop a 20MP image :

I think this one is at 8mp mode
Not sure if it was mentioned but Superior Auto shoots only in 8 MP, had to switch to Manual to get it up to 20 MP.
Bonus: Some impressions.

I hope you do realize that 808/1020's "lossless" zoom works the same way

Of coure, but given that fact that 808/1020 sensor is much bigger and can take 38MP photos, the "lossless" zoom is a bit more lossless than Z1, and I don't recall Nokia bragging about it and calling it sth like 3x clear zoom(which annoys me highly because many people beleive now that Z1 zoom is same like optical ...). Besides as mentioned before, Nokia can transfer this zoom to video, in which it's really usefull. You can zoom in on photos and crop on Your computer, but You can't really zoom in on 1080p video can You?
