Maybe someone who knows about glass can enlighten us further about why they would take the decision to have gorilla glass on the back. Could it be something to do with the IR reader on the Japanese model?
And do you think this is the same for the international model too?

The explanation could be very simple. The displays were made in Japan and the company that makes Dragontrail glass in Japanese. The phones were assembled in China and the back glass of the phone was produced in China by Corning.
