No, but there are rumors that redesigned Vita gets a phone function.

I also just got soft confirmation that ZL may ship in NA with SD-600 rather than APQ8064 and that the European ZL delay was partly based on getting enough SD-600 supply. The Z released early (it's out now in Europe) because Sony weren't willing to wait for SD-600 and the production difficulties I had previously heard about were actually to do with SD-600 procurement issues. TSMC are said to be at full capacity. Apparently Nexus 4 also suffers from this problem which is why it has so many stock problems, APQ8064 supply is very limited right now, Sony may or may not have stock issues given that demand is very, very high for the Z. I have heard that in Europe the Z has sold out it's first shipment on pre-orders alone and they/NTT sold just under 200k in Japan during the first week on sale.

If my source is right and Sony are moving to SD-600 by end Q2 for their current devices then I don't know what HTC can do, their 4MP camera gambit looks like it has failed and as always Samsung are going to bring the big advertising heat. AT&T look to have picked up the Z and T-Mob/Sprint are in talks over the ZL which will give Sony their widest US release ever, and they are said to be readying a huge marketing budget for the "Z-Series" phones in the US if they can get the carrier deals hammered out. Given that carriers will launch on their own schedule a SD-600 launch could be on the cards.

I will repeat that it is only soft confirmation, I am waiting for my friend to write back with further details and full confirmation.

If it winds up being true, then great for Sony to maintain power parity with everyone else... at least until 2H 2013

Sony stock rating upgraded from SELL to HOLD.

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from sell to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its good cash flow from operations, impressive record of earnings per share growth and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including poor profit margins and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself.

Toshiba Corporation And Sony Corporation In Talks To Merge LCD Panel Operations-DJ

Dow Jones reported that Toshiba Corporation and Sony Corporation are in the final stages of negotiations toward unifying operations in small LCD panels for smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices, according to The Nikkei.

Japan Government Backed Fund Proposing Sony Corporation, Toshiba Corporation Merge LCD Panel Businesses-DJ

Dow Jones reported that a Japanese government backed investment fund is proposing that Sony Corporation and Toshiba Corporation merge their small-size liquid crystal display panel businesses. The government-affiliated fund, Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, is proposing to invest in a merged firm if Sony and Toshiba agree to integrate their small LCD operations. But the idea of a merger is one of multiple options for an industry realignment that the companies are considering, and it remains unclear whether Sony and Toshiba will accept the fund's proposal,.
