Yeah, i heard that about china, i get the feeling that niche devices like z ultra, c5 ultra hurt them more then benefit them but maybe it is worth keeping a mid range 6" for china if it is profitable. The thing is, most people interested in sony or in any other manufacturer phones will look for 4.6"-5.7" phones regardless if it is low-mid-high end and since they bought Ericsson they don't seem to reach their goals and break into new markets but stay more or less in the same position. Looks like they gave up on usa market at least until their next wave of forefront devices which will only be shown in next IFA. Z5 devices better sell well because they solely rely on them. Low end is ruled by motorola and chinese manufacturers, mid range is ruled by old flags. That leaves them with high end main compact and premium and old flags in an unprofitable position.

Well I don't agree on that. If Sony can foresee their production volumes for niche ends, they can make good profits. After the Z5 flagship I really don't think Sony can compete with other OEMs in that area. They should just focus on the compact and phablet range. Moreover, after seeing their android concept, if Sony fail to differentiate and put some unique and usable productivity tools (which seems that way) they are doomed to fail. People who want a small size flagship or a huge size flagship go to Sony, the other market belongs to others. It seems harsh but that is the reality. It really makes me sad seeing this picture.
I don't want to anger you guys but this year is really 80% break %20 make for Sony.

I think that all 3 sizes are important to sony, compact, main and phablet but next time they should increase the premium to 5.7" to differentiate it more then the main. If they will axe the main size then they are just shooting themselves because most people are interested in 4.7-5.7 sizes and this is one of the things that are special about sony, size for everyone. As for c5 ultra and z ultra they should keep the line only if they give them profit so we agree on this.

Z5 Compact should have the 1080p display. And they should have just released the Z5 Premium alongside it and call it Z5. My two cents.

Z5 Compact should've got 1080p display and 3GB of RAM. I hope we'll see Premium/+ version in March with those specs and SD820.

I didn't experience any lag on the Z3 Compact with only 2GB ram. Why would the Z5 Compact lag?

Is a Z5+ with Snapdragon 820 still possible for Q1 2016?

Last rumours suggest Z5/Compact/Premium successors will be out in 2H16, so after 9 to 12 months of current one...
in Q1 we might see Ultra & Tablets... I think they are testing new SoC with larger devices to be sure they're prepared for any heat issue for the regular size flaggies
I agree with @amirprog regarding the premium to 5.7" but looking at there current design it will be hard while maintaining good overall size, the bezels are still large, and it's hard to get them smaller while maintaining symmetry ( stereo speakers, ear phone, sensors, camera all in the top bezel ), and I think having too narrow bottom bezel is not good for single hand usage...
Lets hope for something good in next year flaggies when they have the new design language... Sony always do impressive designs.. so we're not expecting something worse from them...

That's the best news I've heard all year.
Lower overheads means more profit (briighter future), faster prototyping will mean more polished final products, in house construction will mean fewer leaks however, but the taps have been dry for a while anyway.
