The only thing that may make the p990i a better 'phone' in my eyes is its flip where you dont need to reach for the stylus or press a button twice to activate the numberpad. I looked at the Tytn i had and thats the one thing i missed the most being able to just dial a number in with ease !

some people seem to have a problem with the virtual keypad but thats something I've never had a problem with on this or pervious models like the k-jam and jam

there are some freeware apps that give you even bigger virtual buttons btw

What I ment when I in my previous post said that P990 is a better phone, I ment that
first of all the flip makes it so much easier to dial a number, second: The TyTn is much better then my previos experiences with WM devices but when it comes to sound quality it's not even in the same leage as P990.
Third: headsets, I have soon tried every bluetooth headset on the market without finding one that really work, they all work OK, but not really good. Either the sound is to low for the one you speak to, or the voice dial doesn't work, or the soud quality is just crap. And the stereoheadset, that follows with the device is a joke. On P990 every headset I tried worked perfect from start.

You guys are making it impossible for me to choose!

I've worked with Windows Mobile-based smartphone's before (Qtek S100, S200, 9100, Ipaq h6340) but always missed the regular phone keyboard on these devices. Dialing numbers and typing SMS's on a *real* 0-9 keyboard has become second nature soo much that I feel it's akward not to have one.

I do need WiFi, touchscreen and the ability to run TomTom Navigator.

On paper, the P990 is the ideal device. 3G (would've prefered if it supported EDGE as well), WiFi, touchscreen, full QWERTY-keyboard AND a real phone keyboard.

However, it turns out the device is seriously flawed. I don't intend to run many third party applications outside of TomTom Navigator, but TomTom, QuickOffice and PDF+ have to run smooth. Which appears not to be the case.

The Tytn seems to be a fantastic piece of hardware, but lacks that real phone feel and I foremost need a phone/PDA, not a PDA/phone.

Tytn or P990 ... either way I'm settling for less than I want.
It's a problem that can't be solved optimally.

On a different note, my experience is that HTC devices tend to get worn out quite quickly compared to ie. Ipaq's or SE's. I know they're all still young, but how are your Tytn's holding up?

It's all a matter of compromise... you have to way up the pros and cons and as you are well aware you rarely get exactly what you want! I too wanted TomTom on my phone (along with other apps) so for me I was left little choice but to go with the TyTN. TomTom Navigator 6 is just out now but no sign of the UIQ3 version!

I removed the flip from my P910i so don't feel the need for a proper keypad. The issue of whether the P990 is a better phone is more of whether you prefer a flip or not, and as the P990 can be flip less then the comparison should be between a flip less P990 and the TyTN. The good thing for flip lovers is that you have the option in the P990.

here's a bit of dissapointment...

I was just setting up my DS970 headset connection to the TyTN and I was planning to chill with a beer on the train while watchig videos using TCPMP while listening to the sound through the DS970

Unfortunately the video stutters when sound is sent to the BT headset and resumes normal playback when I disconnect the headset!

not good
