The 3x clear zoom Sony is advertising is probably something silly. Like You can take a 2MP photo with that only. The same effect as You would crop a 20MP image :

I hope you do realize that 808/1020's "lossless" zoom works the same way

Of coure, but given that fact that 808/1020 sensor is much bigger and can take 38MP photos, the "lossless" zoom is a bit more lossless than Z1, and I don't recall Nokia bragging about it and calling it sth like 3x clear zoom(which annoys me highly because many people beleive now that Z1 zoom is same like optical ...). Besides as mentioned before, Nokia can transfer this zoom to video, in which it's really usefull. You can zoom in on photos and crop on Your computer, but You can't really zoom in on 1080p video can You?

So much anger? what happened to you? had you been bitten by a scorpion?
http://www.nokia.com/global/products/phone/lumia1020/
Go to the Nokia Site and see if they are not bragging about their lossless zoom...
The phrase undr NOKIA LUMIA 1020 is "Zoom Reinvented" if this is not bragging...
and then "Zoom. Reinvented. Nokia Pro Camera on the Nokia Lumia 1020 lets you shoot in super high resolution, which means you can zoom in close to your shot after you’ve taken it. Then rotate, reframe, crop and share new images as many times as you want."
Super high resolution? this is really a professional term... It makes me laugh as the word Ultrapixel used by HTC... All the OEMs like to brag about their tech and use misleading words... Consumer need just to stay focused and be sharp!

Hi guys, i breifly went into a AU store today check the Xperia UL.

 - The upside is that the Sony logo is here, so AU will probably keep the Sony Logo on the Z1. (The employees still have no clue whether they will sell the Z1 or not.)
 - The downside of AU over docomo is their LTE network which is the weakest in Japan. (Not sure what LTE advanced will change as some papers talk about multi carriers integration, but at the moment docomo is better.)

I would like to know what differences I can expect between SO-01F (docomo) and SOL23 (AU).

In particular, does someone know if AU smartphones bootloader is locked and non-unlockable like docomo?

Secondly, the 4g existing or planned band/frequencies are different:
 - Docomo: 28 (700Mhz), 19 (800Mhz), 21 (1500Mhz), 1 (2100Mhz)
 - AU: 28 (700Mhz), 18 (800Mhz), 11 (1500Mhz), 1 (2100Mhz)
We know that snapdragon 800 itself is able to handle all the bands and more which can be convenient when traveling overseas. When the Z1 comes out, how can I know if the SO-01F and SOL23 models are compatible with all bands/frequencies, or if Sony, docomo or AU have deliberately deactivated certain bands to prevent people getting the maximum out of their phone? What can we learn fro recent phones (Xperia Z, A, UL)?

If you guys also expect other differences, please feel free to share!

Duh we're comparing apples to oranges here, the 1020 had more than 7 times the total resolving pixels in 5MP mode, add to that their oversampling tech of which the Z does not have, and the 3X lossless zoom on the Z1 is barely possible due to the total effective pixels at full res. Besides I will never understand why you're so critical when almost every manufacturers does the same marketing stunt as Sony on almost every new feature they propose to the public. you are being just selectively critical to be frank, as I never saw you getting annoyed with the much more annoying and gimmicky floating touch marketing ploy on the S4, nor the overly proud ultrapixel crap of the HTC One. no phone is perfect, but it's ridiculous that there were people who just keep barking loud every holes they'll spot under the pretense that they are constructively criticizing it and that we fanboys are just being bitter and blind.

and I don't recall Nokia bragging about it and calling it sth like 3x clear zoom(which annoys me highly because many people beleive now that Z1 zoom is same like optical ...)

Either you lived in cave or you never saw Nokia being overly proud of this months ago,

. Besides as mentioned before, Nokia can transfer this zoom to video, in which it's really usefull. You can zoom in on photos and crop on Your computer, but You can't really zoom in on 1080p video can You?

In fairness only nokia had that oversampling zoom tech since N8, if my memory serves me right, even the current crop of smartphones didn't have one. now what's the point?

@Sassho

I got your point mate, I'd wait for some comparisons as well, but TBH I prefer reviews from real imaging sites, I hope they would review the Z1 as well. but posting samples of a different device on this thread is derailing the topic subject. I hope you wouldn't feel offended

PS: My apologies to everyone for derailing this thread with my post.

AFAIK Au Kddi bootloader would also be locked. So I'd say choose the S0-01F

Thanks Ramu - that is clear!
Ok, will certainly do that, and i will be able to copy what Latios does for rooting

That will be one ugly logo to look at, i hope they will make it 32gb like some said.
At least they can justify the logo with something else than bloatware...

If some of you are in Japan, please let me know what you plan to do!
