Silly silly me ya know I never spotted that bar next to the white balance. I have been getting used to Sony camera menus again

Adjust the ISO to a lower value, see bono's photos have ISOs lower than 150 which is usually higher in low-light photos when you use auto. It may lag, my Xperia L lags like hell when I lower the ISO so you have to be very steady and very patient. But I'm sure it won't do that or it won't be that much in your high-end devices. Also adjust the EV value to make the photo not too bright.

Ah OK thanks I now managed to download the update via Xperia Blog apk file. I changed settings to update via any connection but update center still not working.

All fine now ☺ another strange thing was also my Google Play services wouldn't update either to the latest changes. I decided to do a master reset and now my battery life seems way better. It's not dropping as fast as it was previously 😀
