Id have to disagree

the Nokia 6230 specs are lower (or equal) than the K700 in every aspect except for expandable memory. It has a poor small 128x128 screen compared to the beautifull screen of the K700, it has 24 polys that sound terrible compared to the 40 polys of the K700, it only has a VGA cam just like the K700, it only has 6 mb onboard memory (but memoryslot) and only allow videorecording of max 2mb (even with a memorycard installed) where K700 allow unlimited recording, it does not support themes like K700. It has a lousy interface and design compared to the K700.

Besides the expandable memory (which there are no real use for) it offers nothing over the K700 and are no competitor at all in my mind.

I allready know 3 people with nokia 6230 and have had time to play with it in real life - and beleive me its really not that special. I wouldent even trade one for my T610.

Moving to the S700 only makes the comparison even more grose.
Screensize alone is reason enough for me to not want the 6230
and memoryslot is of no use - Its only good for mp3 playing which is completely idiotic in a phone. Battery runs dry in 3 hours max and memorycards are expensive. Any 50-100$ dedicated mp3 player with 128mb flashram will do better. MP3 playback in a phone is not ment as substitute for mp3player - but is for mp3 ringtones - and as long as the phones onboard memory is sufficient - theres no need for expandable memory.

But the mmc in the 6230 is the main factor. Also, the 6600 can use 512mb mmc cards. This message was posted from a WAP device

@TheRealSpawn,

I agree with you fully that the K700 is a much nicer designed phone with bigger screen than the 6230. Take a look here about what NK had to say about the 6230:

"Shared Memory
The following features in this phone may share memory: phonebook, text & multimedia messages, images, video clips & ringing tones in Gallery menu, WAP bookmarks, calendar, to-do-notes, JavaTM games and applications. Using any such features may reduce the memory available for any features sharing memory. This is especially true with heavy use of any of the features (although some of the features may have a certain amount of memory specially allotted to them in addition to the amount of memory shared with other features). For example, saving many text & multimedia messages, images, ringing tones, JavaTM games and applications may take all of the shared memory and your phone may display a message that the memory is full."

I bet your 3 friends who bought this phone doesn't know this when they put in their hard earned cash for the 6230 right? The same will happen everywhere, in every country around the world. My point is, 6230 is a NK, and everyone knows about NK, and the mass market always thinks NK is the best, and would blindly buy the 6230 w/o really knowing it's weaknesses like we do, and salesmen will never warn them too. Thus what SE should do, is to make the T650 a reality asap, or at least make the S700 out in Jun - Sep, and sell it at an agressive price, so that salesmen are at a better position to sell it over the 6230, by telling them, "look, if you wanna get the 6230, why not consider the K(S)700/T650 instead? It's got everything that the 6230 has, and MORE..." Really, else the 6230 will definitely sell like hotcakes everywhere, just like 6600, and I hate it when seeing so many people carrying a NK...

Cheers

about the mp3 thing..... i think it's idiotic that some people trash mp3s on phones because it's on a nokia and not in a se sheesh yu always have a mobile phone with you and i guess you are not going to listen to 15gb of music while waiting for the dentist or on a bus stop?!?
but the point is you always have it with you! sure you can buy a muvo or something like that but in my experience when i had the hpm 10, i rarely took it with because i just forgot or i said to myself: nah i'm not going to use it anyway.....
so mp3s on the phone are actually quite usefull, i think that they ae better than games......
and about the 3h battery life, sheesh i really don't think anybody listens to music on 10 dollar crap earbuns for more than 3h, maybe on some high quality akg or koss earphones but f*ck not on a mobile phone.....

i think that the mmc slot is HUGE advantage of 6230, but then again i would choose a k700.....
why because people have different needs, some play games some don't some listen to music some don't!
you can not say tha mp3s are idiotic because you don't use it...

I didnt say mp3's on mobilephones are idiotic - or what I ment was - that buying a mobilephone because you want to use it mainly as an mp3 player instead of a descent mp3player is idiotic. Im not talking about playing a few songs now and then - this you can also do on a K700 with the memory onboard. All of the debates Ive had with people about the Nokia 6230 and the memoryslot has been about them getting the Nokia as a replacement for an mp3 player. This is the ONLY thing most people want the memoryslot for. And the ONLY thing most people seem to find extremly important - that it can be used as mp3 player. Most of them plan hughe memorycards and hours and hours of mp3playing - and this is plain foolish. Its a phone primarily - this is the reason one should buy it. Otherwise one should get an Ipod.
Most of them look astonished when I tell them that they should not expect 6 hours of constant mp3playing - and still be able to use the phone a couple of days without recharging. But I will not get into this argument once more - if you beleive a mobilephone to be a good replacement for a dedicated mp3 player - so be it

I'll just get me a phone - that can play a few mp3 and use mp3 as nice ringtones - everyone else may get their "marvelous mp3 player" - I dont give a s**t

I wouldent mind a memoryslot on the K700 - but I dont consider the Nokia 6230 to have a HUGHE advantage because it does have one - because theres nothing really interesting to use the memoryslot for on a Nokia 6230. No reason to store videoclips, who wants to watch video on such a crappy screen, no reason to store applications, its not a smartphone, no reason for hundreds of mbs extra space for pictures, its only a vga cam - and again the screen doesnt invite viewing pictures, no reason to store themes cause it doesnt support it, no reason to store 500 mp3's because battery sets a natural restrain on playback time.

The memory of the K700 is plenty for the things supported by the handset

When it comes to selecting a phone I think the overall impression is what matters, not a single
thing such as MMC or FM radio. Because if that was the case T610 would not be the best (or at least one of the best) selling camera phone in 2003 although it had bad camera, bad RF (according to some), to little memory and very slow menu system (according to some).

I could actually imagine people choose K700 over 6230 although it has no MMC because its more fun
to use. With a fun phone people seem to be prepared to stand with all short comings a phone may have. Just look at the K700 UI and compare it with the color less UI Nokia uses.

did this very well in the T610. really great colorful UI compare to nokia's series 40 and series 60 phones. even with the so many colors on their screens, their UI seems monochromatic for some reason. I reallt enjoy browsing the menus of the T610 and any improvement over it would make upcoming phones great sellers.
